Say Sutter isn't a players coach all you want but imo that is some of the best example of positive effect a coach can have on players that is visible to the fans. He can shield them from ####ty media people who like to tear down any built up confidence possible for a story.

Thats Sutter hockey to a tee if I remember right.
I don't car about my foreward unless they make a distinct impression one me . Who's playing defense and stopping chances and moving the puck up ice out of our zone.
It's no surprise Monahan is standing out for darryl over Johnny. Despite his lack of scoring this year Monahan has been consistently better defending.

He goes out of his way to say “Sean has done everything I have asked of him”, but passes on complimenting Gaudreau. He also praises Lindholm as being a really good player.
He clearly loves 2 way centres as he should and Sean is going to be grown in this direction.
He’s not been impressed by fancy plays, especially when they end up in turn overs at the offensive blue line.
I bet it’s Gaudreau that gets traded unless he magically starts playing defence and protects the puck more.

Was just looking at ice times and what not and see Pulujarvi at -3 for the night and realized i dont remember hearing his name even once during the broadcast. Of course it may have happened had Campbell just stuck to analysis between whistles but she continues to drone on and on and on while play is underway.
She and Singh are, by far, the most unlistenable duo in the sport.
Kudos to Bennett though...possibly raising his stock ahead of tomorrow. Played well.
Best game in a while from Lindholm as well.
Also...if Hanifin/Andersson becomes a thing? I'm OK with that. Just solid at every turn.
You could do worse with a #1 pairing both being 24 years old.

And 24 pts in his last 90 games.
Context and sample size matter.
No question he has been better under Sutter though. Not nearly enough IMO to be anything but traded by tomorrow and get an asset from a guy that can re-sign once he becomes UFA if thats what the team and him want.

I could understand McDavid’s frustation about having to play but I think that would be motivation. My son has played on the birthday, day after and anniversary of grandparents that have passed away and played amazing games, even doing the pointing to the sky when he’s scored. Couldn’t the Oilers have just moved the Celebration? They don’t play again until next Friday. They were suppose to the Canucks this week

Of course the Oilers couldn't have possibly done anything at all about this. Remember, the NHL has it in for the Oilers, and just wants them to fail and takes every opportunity to kick the Oilers that it can...

Lots of teams play under similar circumstances. And they may well be affected. They don’t use it as an excuse, question or no. The fact the question was asked shows how the media likes to excuse the Oilers and the fact it was answered like that shows how the team welcomes the chance to excuse itself.

Oilers are a team always full of excuses for every loss, they never learn or except their loses.

Connor McDavid is so unlikable. He’s lucky he’s good at hockey because he doesn’t have much going for him in the personality department.

Context and sample size does matter. 8 points in 15 games while playing for his first NHL head coach since his rookie season is pretty important context.
In the end though, it all depends on the path forward.
Is the team rebuilding (Gio, Johnny, Monahan traded for futures in the summer?)? If so, I could see an argument for qualifying Bennett and playing him as a centre next season. We need bodies, and perhaps he’d be worth more next trade deadline than this one simply if he’s getting played more (seems unlikely he’d be worth less than the pennies on the dollar he’s worth this one, and he could help us lose next year).
If the team isn’t rebuilding...well, we’re screwed anyways, so what does it matter?

Imagine taking a date back to his monochrome house and seeing the 8 foot ceiling basketball court? First thought is “serial killer”.
On topic, great result for the flames.
Leadership moment: you don’t compare or complain about a loss of life and a hockey game. You say “Colby was a huge loss to everyone inside and outside of dressing room and we are grateful to have the opportunity to pay our respects. It is a difficult time for everyone and the result of a hockey game doesn’t compare.”
Well, that’s what leaders say.

Gaudreau was never going to sign again in Calgary imo. He'd already expressed interest in returning home, went home every chance he had, and recently go engaged to a woman who lives in the area he's from. He seems very tight with family and old friends.
As much as it stings, Gaudreau was going to go anyways. Hopefully he increases his trade value by playing well these last few games.

Sutter is just a beauty.
Francis makes sure his quotes are well announciated so that he can send the audition tape in to Snet or TSN and make sure everyone knows it is he and he alone asking all the tough questions that he is asking supposedly, on the back of us fans.
Sutter's disgust at answering predictable, cliched questions is evident; proof further when Rylan asked him about the early snafu and he went into detail he didn't go to on other questions. Also, be answered Gilbertsons same question that Francis basically asked more in-depth, and then not so subtly drops the fact that the biggest lineuo shakeup wasn't JG and SM, it was the defensive pair shuffle.

I'm just happy the commentary was so balanced. It completely matched the flow and score of the game. Credit was given to all who deserved it.
In other news, imagine feeling the need to play McDavid 21 minutes in a 5-0 pumping.
Also, McDavid now thinks he can tell the league when to schedule games.
