He got injured at the start of March 28th, and the prognosis is 12 weeks.
Playoffs Start May 11th, so if he's out the full 12 weeks then he's likely back at the end of round 2...if he doesn't return ahead of schedule, which happens. It's definitely a reach, but I'd argue it's not in the realm of the impossible.

I'd be stunned if that happened. It's one of those structural injuries where you absolutely don't want to rush a player back or it could hurt the rest of their career.
End of round 2? You have more faith in the Panthers than I do.

I look at how good they've been and then I look at the cap space they have...I think when your team has a chance, you take it.
You've got the centre, the goaltending, the coaching, and a lot of players aged just right for one of those "next man up" pushes. I'd be friggin' excited as a Panthers fan right now. I wish Ekblad hadn't gotten hurt though. Awful timing.

I was interested to see that JH and AB were split up, and haven't really missed a beat. A lot of non-household names (at least on the other side of the continent), so it wasn't an easy lineup to guess.

They broke those two up to spread out the creative players to separate lines. Each player drives the play in his own right and can set up others easily. Barkov has turned Verhaeghe into a top line player this year. Huberdeau has made Wennberg into a legitimate 2nd line center. Lots of things have gone right this year, which I think was just dumb luck.
Acciari was great last year, as was Vatrano. They just picked up where they left up and got even better. Luostarinen has been a surprise for me as I never heard of him before this year. Tippett and Marchment have been projects for a while (Marchment with the Leafs before this).
The new GM has been quite shrewd when finding good young players about to pop. I hope he can keep it up with these new acquisitions.

They can add anyone. This would be a perfect time to trade them Monahan

It'd be perfect for us and them.
Monahan slotted as #2 behind Barkov makes sense.
...they'd clearly want to send us that Lukas Lundell (or whatever his name is, pfft) kid now that we know the Liiga is a joke league and no good NHL'ers come out of it.
I'd get to cheer for Florida in the playoffs as my team in the East.
It'd be perfect.
Perfect.

If FLA wanted to add a Monahan, I'd be happy with Lundell OR Denisenko. Or, Trade Monahan and Gio to FLA for both and a pick.

They look pretty set up front with forwards. I could see them looking for a D-man to help out with Ekblad out for the season though. Bennett might actually be able to help them out as a depth forward as the tempo in the playoffs ramp up.

Giordano to the Panthers would be good to see because he deserves a couple of chances to chase a cup. Also gives them a top 4 D to help fill in while Ekblad is gone.
Gio carries a big cap hit, but looking at the Panthers, they only have Duclair, Wennberg, and Forsling to re-sign in the offseason with about $15M in space and one of the best performing teams in the league.
Who knows, but an interesting potential landing spot.

I was thinking the same. He also brings playoff experience to a team that doesn't have a lot of it. Not sure how the LTIR relief works, but with ~$4 million in cap space and Ekblad with his $7.5 million cap hit, can't they exceed the cap by the difference until the start of next season?
Sure, it might require some maneuvering at that time, but that's tomorrow's problem. Right now, they have a pretty good window.

Surprised nobody has mentioned, Riley Stillman, son of Cory (and born in Calgary).

We don't talk about the Stillmans in these here parts. Not since 2004.
Never again.

Gio to Florida I could see.
Can’t see how Monny helps anyone these days. Plus huge cap problem. He’d be basically a cap dump at best right now. Calgary needs to keep him and hope he establishes some value.

I think the two players the Panthers got were two contracts to help balance out the deal. Their is no popping here.
Panthers dumped cap, and Chicago got a useful back end dman in Stillman and a potential boom guy playing in Europe . With Chicago’s recent success in Europe (Lankinen, Suter), I expect they think he’s got something they can help his development with.
