I hope they keep the leave the pin in rule going forward, I find that saves a bunch of time.

I play a 'serious' game but only in the sense of I keep my score and don't take mulligans. I'll have a few beers, joints, maybe there's music playing. My buddies tend to play that way too, but I do always have people wanting me to take mulligans if I hit a bad shot. Pretty sure its to justify their own mulligans
Nothing wrong with a new golfer taking mulligans etc, more reps, more ball striking, will only help you. But as others have said, don't be slow!

As much as I didn't like the flags staying in at first, it really does speed things up. I think that outweighs my old school thought of no pins when putting.

What do we think about the not raking rules with Covid? I find that speeds things up quite a bit as well. At first I felt so guilty last year for the first few rounds, but now I’m really used to it and find it definitely makes things move a little faster.

I love the no raking and I don't think it changes the game for most golfers and most rounds. I thought that the biggest impact of the Covid rules was the spacing between tee times. I think that course should keep that as it made the overall rounds faster and more enjoyable.

Most courses ditched that within the first month of Covid, let alone doing it this season. It may be great for the customer but for the courses that is $1000's a day in revenue thrown away. They'd be crazy to keep doing it.

The only reason they did it to begin with is because all the courses were tripping over themselves to put the most Covid restrictions in place so courses could open when provinces initially didn't want to let them.

Oh I know, and I definitely see why they were anxious to get rid of it. From a user perspective though, it was far better.

I've seen a few courses move to putting rakes in each cart so you could at least rake traps if you wanted. That's a nice touch.

I loved the 10 minute spacing on tee times. 8 minutes sucks but I understand why they do it ($$$). But they jam people onto the course and then have Marshalls hound them for slow play.

In my experience if and when marshalls actively manage courses they do it wrong. So many times they hound a group kind of in the middle of a slow down and are too afraid to confront an alpha male or member group at the front of the slow down.

Sure you can get group number 8 to speed up a tad to the group ahead, but that often only temporarily speeds up the groups behind as they quickly catch group 7 and the lead slow group still has the overall course speed at a snails pace.

I still just can’t get over how slow some players play. I played blue devil yesterday and had to wait on every single hole. And we were walking. I won’t be back this year because of that. Just brutal.

I did shoot 93 without swinging a single club or practicing a single putt this year prior to the round so that was a win.

I hate it. Put the rakes on the carts and sanitize the rakes after the round while you do the cart. Problem = solved

Agreed. The bunkers look like garbage and are annoying.

No rakes helps with pace of play, and really helps speed up maintenance. They're a hazard and any house rule gives you favorable lie anyway. Golfers are terrible at raking, so there's not really a difference between golfer raked and unraked to me.
Ideally there will never be a rake on a golf course again, and only one ball washer at the first tee. Let golfers haul their own rakes around if they want one. Or just give these out https://www.stayhold.com/products/go...er-rake-pocket

Raking a bunker would rank way down the list on what slows down play in my book.

There's really no single thing that's the golden bullet. But it's one of those little things that adds up after a while. Especially when you go from bunker, skull it off the lip to another spot in the bunker, then go across the green into a different bunker. Walk around, find a rake because people have piled them into the same spot like animals, walk back to your entry point to have the least amount of raking. And so on.

I'd call it 5-10 minutes a round for a typical round. Not a lot on it's own but combined with some of the other things and it's noticeable. I think if you timed the raking time people had during a round you'd be surprised.

But people take while other people hit. So it’s not really lost time. Most of the time I mean. The odd time ya you wait for a guy hacking it out. But generally others are still playing.

Course have maintenance people (or even Marshals) running around the course all day. Not a lot of people end up in a bunker relatively speaking, you could have someone circle the course and rake them a couple of times per day and that would go a long way.
