Even if we miss on Wright, getting Savoie or Lambert would be huge for the rebuild

Hey, I'm right there with you. Sell everything that isn't nailed down for as many 2022 and 2023 1st rounders as possible. Just go all in. Three phenoms are available over those 2 drafts.
The 2022 draft also has Brad Lambert and Matthew Savoie. They are both considered future franchise players and would go 1st overall most years. The 2022 draft looks absolutely ridiculous actually. I would be willing to be Ottawa Senators expansion team bad to stock up on picks.

The Flames pick in next year's draft will be a to 3 the problem is another team will be using it. I can see management making a "swing for the fences" kind of deal for a player and it won't work and they still bottom out.
The Flames don't and never really have thought about the future, they do whatever they can to try to help the hear and now and it's never enough so they stay in that perpetual mediocre pile. It's like they have the mentality that draft picks and prospects are good but if we can be a little bit better than good (but still not good enough) we will give up whatever picks we need to!

lol the Flames will get a top 3 pick but another team takes a kid who ends up joining their team and helping them win the cup. The Flames turn a top 3 pick to a 32 overall pick.

Wheeler was drafted (5th overall) by Phoenix, and refused to sign.

With the crap shoot that this draft year is, I wouldn't be opposed to our high first being traded for mid-low firsts and extra kicks at the can.

The whole "crap shoot" is being overblown.
The top-end of the draft is the top end of the draft. It's not like a kid who would have otherwise gone 1st overall is going to show up at 20th overall.

Yes, later round picks are valuable this year. But the Flames need elite players.
Not more kicks at the can.
The best way to get elite players is to draft high.
You're not going to find a superstar center in the 5th round. Brayden Point is the closest thing to this, and even he was a third round pick.

This is not at all a legitimate concern.
In the last 15-20 years every single US-borne player drafted in the first round out of US hockey by a Canadian team has signed his ELC and played for the team that drafted him.

I wish the NHL saw some of the crazy trades you see in NFL.
How about something like the Dolphins and 49'ers just did recently.
Dolphins traded their 3rd overall pick to the 49'ers for 12th overall, 2022 1st rd pick, and 2023 1st rd pick.
I would be all over that in the Flames case, as unrealistic as it is.

Yeah this Bedard kid is effing ridiculous.
26 pts in his first 14 WHL games...at age 15.

Getting Bedard would be a dream, but I doubt the Flames will ever be bad enough to get him.

2023, safe to say Bedard is going first overall. But if the Flames got 2nd would you gamble on Michkov? Wouldn't see him for a couple years but he's trending to be an Ovechkin-level talent

And so much could happen between now and the 2023 draft. Almost impossible to know who might be in contention for that pick (other than Buffalo).

No doubt you take Michkov. IMO he has a legit shot to challenge Bedard over the next year. It will be a close race between the two. Of course, if they come out near equal teams will certainly take Bedard for the NA factor.
Edit: should also say Michkov needs to grow a few more inches to have a shot at 1. He's only 5'9 right now. But his numbers are better than Ovechkins at the same age, which is pretty stunning.
