In general it's good practice to use your parking brake regardless of transmission type but with automatic transmissions it's even more important to use your parking break on any sort of incline or decline to prevent wear of the parking pawl. This is something most drivers aren't very good at doing. If your car rolls a little bit after putting it in park or clunks when going from Park to Reverse it's usually a sign of parking pawl wear.

It's the price that gets me. If they were actually about $10-$15k cheaper than a half ton then it would make complete sense. But at or near the same price point, it's puzzling
I don't care the way you seem to think I do, it's just interesting that's all. If it works for you that's fantastic. If it makes you happy that's all that matters

Yes, the price of midsize trucks have gotten bad. I'm holding out hope for some proper small trucks to return with extended cab 6ft boxes like they used to make. I don't need 4 doors. I think pretending the back seat is all that useful(unless you have young kids) is not worth the sacrifice. The jump seats are handy in a pinch, and the extra space is perfect for my cat carrier and putting stuff you don't toss in the back, so I still want that space, just not wasting to much box space.
A small electric pickup would really be perfect for me.

I find the Ranger to look so sad and boring. Like if you're looking for the lamest truck ever, that's your guy since they'll discount the fata out of it since it sucks so bad.
But the Tacoma isn't a 20-year-old design. It's five years old.

That being said, I test drove a 49k Canyon with the off road package (all they had on the lot) and it just isn't worth 49k. That's out of my budget range anyways, so I'm changing my focus to something 1-2 years old. That way I can get a better trim level on a bigger truck.

There is a smoking deal on two year f-150 leases, at least I think it is still on for April..

That is done, promo ran Jan 1- March 31. $1500 2.7L rebate has gone away as has the $1000 factory order credit, rates have also gone up. This was a great program to generate sales on 2.7L models which are typically not as desirable.
It's not the profit Ford makes that got that payment, it was their gamble on future value (2 year residual) being 67% of MSRP. FWIW, strong residuals and (cheap payments) were major contributors to the 2008 Auto bailout. The used truck market is so crazy though so this should be a safe bet for now. It can however eliminate the "equity after two years" situation many people have found themselves in.

But is it a manual? EDIT: I guess not if it's a turbo S. What a waste.

I get wanting to have a manual for the experience, but PDK is pretty incredible.

Yeah, if you have to drive an auto, PDK is a good way to go. But then you probably don't want a Turbo S unless you're driving it on a track. A car that fast with a dual clutch on the road is downright frustrating to drive anywhere remotely close to the speed limit.
EDIT: On that topic, this is a pretty good deal.

For those of you with pickups, what kind of summers do you like? Need some for 08 Ram 1500 that will see some hauling but limited towing. Mostly on asphalt but a number of gravel/dirt roads too. Really like tires that excel at shedding water.

The Turbo S is an obviously fast car but I really don't think it's track focused. It's more of a touring car that is ridiculously quick. It makes sense that it only comes in automatic

It's the touring cars that are more likely to come in manual. Their track cars are automatics.

If you are trying to set lap times, yes, automatic.

No, as in if you want to buy one of their track cars, it's automatic. Only the GT3 touring is manual.

If you're off-road 15%-20% of the time like me, Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac's or BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2's are the obvious default choices
If you're off-road maybe 5% of the time, General Grabber A/TX's were alright. Firestone Destination A/T2's came on a truck I bought and they were surprisingly decent.
If you're never off-road, I've only used two pavement tires in the last 5 years. Cooper Evolution H/T's which were alright. I really quite liked the BFGoodrich Advantage T/A Sport as well, more than the Cooper's, but the treadlife wasn't fantastic
