Flames TSN: Flames likely to be quiet at the trade deadline

Insider trading:

Flames likely to be quiet at the trade deadline
Treliving is open to anything but the deals he wants to do typically wait until the offseason
Flames are taking calls and received interest on Rittich
Been more quiet on Ryan and lower priced pending UFAs

My already low expectations have been tempered. Is that the messages they're trying to convey?

Hey, if it means not getting lowballed on the little bit we have, I'm okay with it.

The answers are in the room!

It's kind of a tough situation. I just hope the Flames don't retain salary on any player getting traded. Cut your losses and take what you can get and move forward.

I think they need to move Bennett... do they really want to qualify him?

Trading Monahan and/or Gaudreau seems like a very difficult thing to accomplish mid-season when neither are pending free agents in a normal season, let alone this one.

Those types of moves need to happen in the off-season.

That being said, Bennett/Rittich/Ryan/Ritchie type of moves? Make sense at the deadline.

Are they really gonna say "we are desperate to trade players and will take whatever"

Trust the process, even if no one has any idea on what it is.

Every single UFA that can be dealt for ANY pick whatsoever should be dealt.

Looking at the Flames UFAs though, probably not a lot of interest out there, if any.

I would be shocked if every upcoming UFA (and Bennett) were to move this trade deadline. I am betting they sell 2 players - maybe 3. It isn't crazy to think that a core player with term could move, but that's a low probability. Hopefully Treliving can make a few deals and bring in some draft currency, and either use it to draft players, or make different moves in the off-season to help reshape this core.

It sucks but it's probably the right thing to do. You aren't going to get full value now. You also won't get full value in the off-season (Gaudreau's NTC kicks in, etc.)

In hindsight, bigger changes should have been made 2 years ago. It's a terrible situation they've found themselves in.

Aren't we effectively limited to only trading within the division because of travel restrictions? If that's still the case, then it would be silly to try to offload guys at the deadline when only 5 other teams will even trade with us.

I like how Sutter said there are a a few young players on this team who are going to be really good down the road... but then quickly clarified "young" as in "Tkachuk's age and under."

Yeah, I don't really care if the Flames get low-balled.
Just ship Rittich, Ryan and Bennett off to the highest bidders.
We'll know Brad tried.

Mike Cammalleri had 45 points in 63 games (I'm not sure what he totals were pre-deadline), and then Burke refused to trade him for an insufficient pick.
He then walked as a UFA and the Flames had nothing to show for it. Don't let that happen again.

My prediction is the Flames will trade away more picks than they will get

I am also doubtful if any contending team would be looking to add players like Gaudreau or Monahan for the playoff drive, due to their reputations for the post season(even if Monahan has fared better in the playoffs, but regardless, he is supposedly playing injured anyways). Thus, agreed, it may be better to wait till the offseason.

We hear the same every deadline, as the offseason is when core moves make more sense.

Of course treliving hasn't been able to do that for 3 years now.

States teams would only need the player to quarantine for 7 days. So that may help.
