...I don't see Toronto going after Johnny, although he may help fix their PP.

If the Leafs made this trade Johnny would fit in nicely on a line with Nylander and Tavares or Mathews and Marner. To get Johnny at under a $3.5 mil cap hit next year as well is worth more than that IMO. I bet you could add a conditional or lottery protected first in 22 as well.
Leafs PP has struggled of late but I love how they need Johnny to fix their PP when they had for a large part of the season over 30% PP and were first in the league. It's a pretty good PP and still sits 8th overall.

I’d be happy for Gio to get a chance at playoff success with the Leafs. Personally I don’t hate that team and I’m a big fan of Thornton and Brodie.

My thoughts as well. It's where I hope Bennett ends up.

It would certainly make it more palatable to see Canada's team win if Gio was on it.

A certainty? that's getting WAY ahead of yourself.
I agree it would be a good idea, but there are many reasons why it might not happen. The Flames have to want to do it, Gio has to want to do it (in all likelihood, I think the Flames would approach him out of respect first), and some other team has to want to do it. Making a trade of this magnitude requires a few parties to agree to it. Treliving doesn't just get to call the Florida Panthers, as example, and say 'We will take a 1st and a this prospect'.

Cup Contender - Check
Hometown Team - Check
Reunite with BFF Brodie - Check
Toronto has need for D-man - Check
Giordano (50% retained)
for
Kerfoot
Liljegren (or maybe Robertson)
I'd hate to see Gio get traded, but honestly this deal just makes a lot of sense right now.
|
I think Lilijegern's stock has dropped quite a bit. I would push for Robertson. Leafs might balk, but If they believe they are close enough you might be able to get them to overpay.

Why would the Leafs give up so much for a bevy of under performing players?
Their best prospects plus multiple high picks?
Again if this is what people are expecting, ready yourselves for a hard reality check on what these guys are likely actually worth.

I just asked a question...you honestly think Nylander would be putting up points playing with Monahan and Ritchie?
I highly doubt it
Gaudreau sets up Monahan for a wide open look in the slot and he shoots it 10 feet high. If you are going to compare stats who Nylander plays with is relevant.

Either that or their first and we give the Edmonton 3rd.

Well they play different positions so hard to answer.
But to answer your question, I think the entire line sucks. I think they all have been playing awful. So i don't view it as Johnny suffering from playing with those two (though would like to see Ritchie swapped out for anyone) they are all sucking because they all suck.

I would take any of:
Amirov
Sandin
Liljegren
Anderson
Ovechinnikov
Straight across. I would offer max salary retention for 2 of them.
|
Oh, Don't let Simeon Der-Arguchintsev slip through that list either. I might have him over everybody but Amirov.

Lol stark defense of Gaudreau, who literally won't go within 10 feet of the boards or net to make plays, and largely gives up on the play as soon as the puck leaves his stick for these "wide open looks"

We will probably find out...I bet another team puts him in a position to succeed and he puts up 80+ points
To me he is a playmaker and needs to play with the right players to be effective, its not excusing anything for me its the reality of the situation.

I think you save that card for the 2022 Shane Wright draft.

That's why you sign Hall in the Summer.
Then draft Wright and Bedard consecutively with 1st overalls = dynasty.

They can beat the Oilers if need be...other than that I will laugh when they get pounded by the Avs or Lightning.
I think the Canadian div is giving some teams a false sense of how good they are.
