Good deal for the Panthers as given their situation it's worth the chance. A change of scenery will do him good but I don't know if he's ever going to be better than average.

I could see a redemption path for D'Arnold easily.
He will only be 24 at the start of next season - which is ridiculous to think that he's still that young when he's been a QB in the league for three seasons already. He's only a year older than Mac Jones for example, and actually younger than Joe Burrow.
Now that doesn't mean it's a guarantee but in the right team with some weapons and an actual offensive line I think he could surprise some people.
He played under a horrible team with no semblance of an offensive line in New York, and he had no other offensive weapons. Sure getting sacked 98 times in his first three years is partially his own fault, but that also means you have no offensive line. Coming into last season Darnold and Allen had pretty much identical career numbers, Allen took off with some new weapons and a better o-line, Darnold went the other way with a horrible coach, no weapons and an injury plagued oline.

He’s also got McCaffrey at his disposal.

I'd definitely rather take a flier on Darnold for a 2nd and a 4th then trade multiple firsts to draft Mac Jones.

win-win-win for all parties. Jets get to stockpile even more picks and draft their new franchise QB at 2, Panthers take a flyer on a still young QB at a reasonable cost and Darnold gets a fresh start with a good OC. I like it.

I'll bet $50 right now that Bridgewater is the Panthers starting QB in week 1.

Its unlikely Bridgewater is even with the Panthers much longer.

Wouldn't make much sense to give up three picks for a guy you don't plan on playing.

Bridgewater to the Patriots. He'd do well in that dink and dunk offense, and he's a lot cheaper than Garoppolo.

Also, I think the Panthers draft pick becomes much more valuable now that they don't need to pick a QB. It seems there's really good non-QB talent at the top of the draft with many teams needing QBs, so now they should get a really good player, for example getting one of the WRs or OLs, or get a good return trading the pick. Or if one the QBs are still there, that pick could be super valuable. This could open up the acquisition of another first-round pick (plus maybe some of the mid-late capital they just gave up)

Paton knows and likes Teddy 2 Gloves. If Denver doesn’t get wild at the draft and trade up to 4 for whichever leftover QB is left I wouldn’t be shocked if they get Teddy on the cheap. He’d easily beat out Lock.

Not sure you can win with either but as Rube said if they were in competition for the starting spot I could see Bridgewater beating out Darnold.

Over 2 years.

Trading him is the best option, with Bridgewater set to count $23 million against the 2021 cap, but that will be a tough sell. He can be released with a post-June 1 designation and save $7.9 million, but Carolina would take a $15 million hit in dead money this year and $5 million in 2022.

Its possible they re-structure his deal making him more attractive to other clubs....but he may be running out of places to go. NE and Denver are maybes, but beyond that?
Back to New Orleans perhaps? Not sure what Winstons salary structure is.

yeah I don't believe for a second that Jones is their guy, I bet it's all smoke. If you go off the board, take Lance, not Jones. Jones will be an Andy Dalton type of QB, you don't sell the farm to draft a guy like that.

The line of thinking is that Shanahan wants Jones because he ran successful offenses with the totally immobile Kirk Cousins and Matt Ryan, and that Jones fits that mold of a high level game manager. Maybe the think the Falcons would take him at #4? Or that someone was going to jump that high for Jones? Either way until the pick is made there is a lot of legs that picking Mac Jones can be driven by the media.

IMO they gave up too much to move up for a guy with as much bust potential as Lance. I tend to agree that Shanahan believes he can win with a solid game manager as Garoppolo is not that as outside of his health issues he turns over the ball way too much.

I agree, but at the same time, they gave up too much for a game manager. That's why I still can't wrap my head around this trade ... you pay that much, you better be sure you get "the guy". But with Lawrence and Wilson off the board, I have no idea who that's going to be in their minds. With Fields and Lance, there's at least a somewhat higher ceiling ... I'm just not seeing that with Jones.
