The two are unrelated except from the perspective of managing budget. Player value is not impacted because of waivers exposure. This is such a fallacy.

Only if Tanev is upset about it.

I don't think it would be a good look to be shopping him (and BT should have different priorities), but if FLA or someone comes asking he should at least ask the Tanev camp what they think and if it's worthy of further discussion.

Yeah, if you say "look Chris, we thought we had a shot to be good, but it's clear we're not. We need to gut and rebuild and send you to a contender to do so" I think he's receptive to that. He's got no ties here.

It pisses me off though, because he's the best defensive d-man I've seen for a long time.

When you think about it, one of the biggest failings of Calgary's players is their collective inability to step up when it matters, especially in the playoffs.
Yet we are hoping that playoff teams are salivating at the idea of adding these same players to put them over he top come playoff time.

Well in Bennett’s case it might actually be a positive

Playoff Bennett in a contract year? Sign me up if I’m a contender and the price is a pick

Except for the fact if you have a fairly deep team can put you over the top

I dunno. Put Johnny in a Kessel or Gaborik role on a contender and maybe he does the same thing.

I wonder if teams were asking about Stone for D depth but he hadn’t played any games, so the team has put him out to satisfy concerns. TBH he’s an OK 7-8 on a contender.

I think all teams should be looking for that sort of depth just in case, especially more with COVID.

I have no doubt teams would take a chance on Johnny. Monny? Not getting much for him, u til he proves himself productive. Gio? That’s a harder one. I doubt the Flames have any intention of trading him, at least not yet.

I would think he be excellent insurance on a contender.

Stone has played well since coming back into the lineup too. Definitely not out of the realm of possibility.

Calling it now: they don’t move any firsts, maybe 2 roster guys go, and they add a right winger to this group which remains mostly intact next season.

Watch them get Palmieri at the deadline and announce an extension that same day

This my fear as well. It’s almost too predictable.
