Mike Gillis? He only GMd Vancouver, and most of the elite players were already there before he came.
If Columbus (Kekäläinen), Anaheim (Murray), or Chicago (Bowman) fire their GMs, those would be interesting. Poile seems to be safe for now.
Otherwise, there's not a lot to choose from without looking at the CHL or European leagues.
Other than that, I could see the Flames promoting Maloney... I guess he did win GM of the year in 2010.

Mike Futa is available and worked with Darryl in la. If they have a good relationship and shared philosophy, he might be someone to watch. Draft and scouting background.

Can't wait to hear how this is all part of the process. And that he is processing this process, and that he is processing what he can do with the process by trade deadline (hint: NOTHING). Oh and the buck stops here - that's part of the process too.

He reiterates that core-altering changes are not something that typically occur at the TD.

Apparently he isn't a big deadline guy. Team is a dumpster fire, and he might not do something.
"Its on all of us". No Brad, it's on you.

He is not wrong. The players have been shockingly abysmal. They own that themselves.

It is on him to put the right mix of players together. Maybe he doesn't know what that is.

Regardless of what he may imply, people will come knocking at the deadline. He will make moves.

For those speculating about a management change, how do people feel about Hakan Loob?

He said as much, but my impression is that he expects the TD to be very quiet across the League.

Judging by the defences people put up for a lot of the worst examples for effort on the team, maybe they don’t know what that is.

I was just going to bring up that name. Is (was?) very highly regarded. Not sure if he wants to leave Sweden at this point. Presumably his kids are all grown up now. Obvious connection, but I am not plugged in to the latest Loob happenings.
I wonder if we could also see a situation where a GM effectively works for Darryl, NFL-style? Someone brought in to specifically build a DS team...

I would be fine with Loob. Not sure if he would come over to North America, has he ever expressed an interest?

I didn't say it wasn't. Maybe bad habits creeped in with Ward. Even that is on Treliving.

Or, and work with me here, adult professional hockey players can take some responsibility for their own play, especially their work ethic.
That said, a lot of the big pieces added by Treliving are quality -Hamilton, Lindholm, Tanev, Hanifin, Ryan, Markstrom, even Lucic. Hamonic and Neal were not.
The main whipping boys - Gaudreau and Monahan (not to mention Gio and Backlund) - he was given. Now people are saying he should have traded them earlier I guess. I sure wasn’t hearing a lot of that around here. And even now people fight over which one is responsible for the other’s decline.

So now when players are playing poorly through multiple coaches....its the GM's fault?
Still not the players doing?
Amazing and befuddling.
