Fan since day 1. Didn’t bother to watch as the result felt inevitable and I hate that I felt that way.

Mike Smith is 39 and playing well above his career average in both save% and GAA...he is not the one that got away and will turn into a pumpkin soon enough
Likely the first game of the playoffs like last season
Oilers can sign 40 year old Mike Smith and roll the dice again though next year

We saw that when these players play their best and the coach uses best system to use their streth the team can have a success during the season, but when playoff starts these players and the system didn't work.
Now Sutter came and try to implement playoff system and these players failed.
So I hope the team start to build a team that can play Sutter system to win all.

Can't be easy to play goal when you have to give up 1 or less or you lose
Imagine your team scores two goals and you get the bulk of the blame

No doubt. So many guys unprotected in the slot
The past few years the Flames have been really vulnerable to the pass from behind the net to the slot way too often. Which is part of the reason why people think the goalies haven’t been good enough.
The Flames’ prior ‘not good enough goalies’ include some guys who are better than people understand, but having said that, Hiller and Elliott in particular gave up backbreaking goals in inexcusable circumstances
A problem I had with Smith was the coaches’ deference to him which helped save the D from the forecheck but killed quick transitions and good breakouts. It has to be an option, not a dominant strategy
Markstrom has frankly not looked as good as he is supposed to be, but it’s individual things that I don’t like, not team things that aren’t his fault

Tall order
Sutter won with LA with core players that were there when he started
He didn’t have to find Iggy externally here when he went to game 7

Oh it sucks, and there is tons of blame on the scoring. Nobody disputes that
Sutter’s primarily perimeter play isn’t working well enough right now

The seasons been over since that three game winning streak we had with darryl came to an end.
I said in the beginning of the season they were going to be mediocre and everyone thought I was nuts but even with their mediocrity I thought they'd make the playoffs.
Flames earned my respect this season..... FOR FINDING A WAY TO ONE UP THOSE PLAYOFF WOES BY GOING 2-5 AGAINST THE SENS AND MISSING THE PLAYOFFS. NOW ALL OF CANADA IS LAUGHING AT US.
F#$***#**#%$%$ either fire Brad or retool that "three year window" has closed.

Really this concerns you? One of these teams will win the chance to get pumped in round 3
Hopefully the Flames can be smart while they spend assets at the deadline

I think his point is that to many this “realignment” to an all Canadian division provided the best chance to reach the semis in years and this group is stuck in sixth place of seven fairly crappy teams.

Didn't watch or follow the score at all.
Honestly I was expecting another 7-1 drubbing so I'm kind of surprised at the final score I guess.
That's as positive as I can be with this team.

Sure but now that its happened and the Flames are sixth we can be more realistic. Avs or whoever is going to pound one of these teams and only one will get that chance.
Please you are all cup contenders spend spend spend your assets. Especially Winnepeg and Edmonton.
These playoffs are going to be a joke for the Canadian teams...US teams will have full buildings and Canadian teams will be playing with nobody and then in some rando building in the Semis.
Do I wish the Flames were in it? Yes...in a few months I think we will be happy they weren't. Especially if they can benefit next week.

I would say as well that I know people in many cities in Canada, and we have friendly trash talk about hockey
For fans, this season could have been a fun ‘once in a lifetime’ opportunity for bragging rights. Best team in the nation
Never mind the round 3 and 4, Canada bragging rights
Now that people I know see the Flames more, at their rock bottom, it gives Flames fans pretty much nothing to trash talk about
It would have been great if it was 2018-19 pre-ASB Flames 2.0 on display
But... it’s this. Whatever this is. Lol
*sigh*

Jarome Iginla in so many respects was the perfect hockey player.
Sigh.

By the law of averages, as you say, this team should be in a playoff spot (or close to). Expected stats are a somewhat overrated IMO, but when sample sizes are small it's the best stat available for tracking player/team performance.
|
But that ignores the goalies performances for both teams, and the relative ability of both teams to finish their chances. Plus ignores a teams power play and penalty killing.
Now Calgary is about average in PP and PK, but well below average in Save percentage.
And the eye test suggests that Calgary’s shooters are below average in finishing plays. Whether that is simply bad luck or a lack of skill is the question. If it’s bad luck, they’ve been unlucky for a number of years.

Put it this way Mike Smith would have the Flames in a playoff spot right now....

I think I heard on the broadcast that Monahan had gone 9 games without a goal, so 10 after last night. And didn’t he go like 11 games between goals before that last one?
Am I correct in stating he has 1 ####### goal in 21 games?

He probably only has like 4 shots in that span too, really not sure what happened to him.

Not even remotely fussed about this result.
The top 8 of this draft class are pretty decent.
Power, Eklund or Hughes would be cornerstone pieces of a retooled core.
Wins in the next 10 days would have clouded BTs judgement for trade deadline.
There is no chance and has been no chance since we lost 2 straight to Sens.
The focus now is to shop everyone including Gio, Rittich, and at least one of Mony/Johnny.
Johnny gets a NTC July 1. We are lucky to have a window to move him for assets now.
Everyone overpays in spring trade deadline, chasing the dream.
We have a unique opportunity to shed several at deadline and not even have to lose anyone of slight value in expansion.
Get on it BT. My opinion of you hangs in the balance. I am part of a shrinking minority that blames the core alot more than you at this stage. You got sold a bill of goods from this bunch of pretenders. Ship several out and retool.
Some good pieces are here with at least three solid prospects already in system (Pelletier, Wolf and Zary).
