Really sick and tired of all the Blames falling on Monahan. Or most of the blame. It's pure horsecrap.

That's not the only thing wrong with Monahan's game though. Like I'll readily admit that he's more engaged, working harder in the corners and looks harder to play against, but we're still not talking about a center who's ready to play a shutdown role like Backlund and Lindholm. So what this team relies on is for his line to do their job and score enough goals in order for this team to win games and he and his line are not doing that. He's got 3 even strength goals on the entire season, he had 20ish even strength goals most seasons.
As for Gaudreau, he definitely has his own issues in the defensive zone, pretty horrible along the boards and can bail on plays to avoid getting hit, but his instincts and ability to manufacture offense out of thin air is what you pay for. But this line is broken. Team's are defending that line's breakout and they have no answer. All I saw this game was Draisaitl driving his line up the middle of the ice tonight and I just thought, how much better would the Flames be if Monahan had the ability to do the same thing.

Results don't lie, they've lost 6 of the last 7.

Flames are allowing way less under Sutter...if the goalies were up to snuff and they got even a little primary scoring they would be tough to beat
honestly the Flames could be pretty good under Sutter next season with a few shrewd moves over the next few months and Markstrom returning to form in a normal season.
Silver lining is watching Canadian teams with ZERO chance at winning the cup spend assets that will eventually just go to waste. As much is this hurts it will feel better as they fall out of the playoffs with worse draft picks and wasted assets on rentals.
Have you guys seen the Avs lately...GL

Ritchie hitting the cross bar, the play quickly goes the other way and Hanifan gets a penalty on the sequence. Then McDavid scores.
For all the Flames problems they deserved a better fate tonight. Lindy's chance at end of second with a fluke stick luck by Nurse as well.

He maybe could have had that very hard shot from McDavid that was screened and low on the faceoff circle...and he almost did...but #### happens. I'm not going to throw him under the bus for a squeaker that came in that scenario.
He also made lots of really great saves in the early part of the game to keep them in it.
Markstrom isn't the problem. Rittich isn't getting a bunch of wins either.

Calgary didn't finish their chances
at best Rittich takes the game to OT but that is a maybe

You have no idea at all, my friend
- I made a comment that Markstrom hasn’t been as advertised
- I want the Flames to win
- He sucked
- They lost
That doesn’t please me at all, in any way

Come on. Goaltending is far from the only reason we’ve lost 6 of 7.
I don’t get how people can watch and pin this on our goalies. One stinker tonight against the best player in the world. It’s not on the goaltending.

Needed the PP goal. Either to make it 2-0 or 3-2 in the third. But if course the PP was not good.

What a kick in the b*lls it is that EDM missed out on the Markstrom sweepstakes and settled for old Smith. Who is playing lights out, while markstrom isn’t looking like the goalie from last year.

The contrast in the quality of the goaltending earlier in the season vs now is impossible to ignore, unless you're absolutely hell-bent on ignoring it.
Is it the only reason for the recent struggles? Of course not. But people suggesting that Sutter has done a worse job than Ward need to give their heads a shake.

Markstrom didn't suck. He was good. Let in that 3rd goal, a clear shot from beteeen the dots to some guy that is possibly the best player to ever play the game.
How about we start asking why we can't score from there? Or why flames players avoid the slot?
Bunch of pansies.

The only thing pure horsecrap is this post. Stop making excuses for the guy, he has been terrible. He is not engaged, he is not getting the little things done, he isn't doing anything but sucking.

It’s not the coaching.

Never has been. I said so way back during the Glen Gulutzan era and was railed for it. CP exploded in excitement when Sutter was hired, but I was skeptical as he doesn't even skate on the ice. I was hoping that the coaching bump would last a little longer, but effort is not the problem right now, it's their inability to finish that's the problem which has been an ongoing issue for years.

I shook it. I still come to the same conclusion. His plan isn't getting the job done. Sure, a few guys are playing with a bit more effort, but nothing notable has changed, they're scoring less, and they're losing more.
I try not to let nostalgia color my viewpoints.

I never said Markstrom has been great...explain to me how Rittich wins this game for sure though
First two goals go in still...maybe saves the 3rd, its McDavid through a screen its not like Rittich has never allowed one like that
First period? who knows...Could have lost worse
Markstrom was okay...I would have said good to very good before the 3rd goal.
If your goalie has to hold the team to 1 or under to win a team is gonna struggle

Sigalet gets promoted in Calgary and Smith’s belly flops per 60 are now at a career low in Edmonton
