The Flames need to go 17-2-0 to catch them.
If the Flames win in regulation tonight, it would bring the target down by two points, and the Flames would then need to go 15-3-0 the rest of the way.
If the Flames lose in regulation tonight, it would move the target up a point, and the Flames would then need to go 18-0-0 to finish with 70 points.
Big game!

We play Montreal 5 more times.
I’m sure the team is still looking at them as the team to catch.
They should just sell off expiring contracts and stockpile for the future before the deadline but I’m sure they are still thinking those 5 games will be huge.

They play the Oilers 4 more times and have even games played. Montreal has 4 in hand.

How about the season aggregated save percentages for both guys? Very close, and sadly the 6 million dollar guy doesn’t have the better one
So it goes with the legend of Jakob Markstrom

If you read again, I also “cherry picked” wins.
Markstrom hasn’t looked elite since his injury. But he hasn’t looked simply bad, and Rittich has, in several games.

Ok. Whatever.
This team is not built to play perfect, stifling hockey and honestly, the goalies haven’t made the difference between wins and losses most games.
I will say Markstrom built up a ton of good will with his early streak (first 12 games), and that good will has lasted very long into the current string of 13-14 or whatever it is where he has looked average at best

I'm gonna watch. Mostly because I won't have anything better to do. Fully expecting the Oilers to straight up dummy the Flames though. They seem to have dialed in the recipe to beat the Flames.

IMO Markstrom was largely responsible for most of the wins before he got hurt.

Sure. He was valuable in a handful of games in the first month
If he is hurt, and it’s affecting his play that badly, maybe he shouldn’t be playing

This argument is very deja vu to the Smith vs Rittich spats two years ago.

Even as is, he’s better than Rittich.

I like hockeyreference.com for their quality starts %
They have Rittich at 54.5% and Markstrom at 46.2%.
Neither are good, but Rittich has been better when it comes to the stinker count.

Meh. I just know that, while he may not have made many game savers in the last month, Markstrom hasn’t let in a single ugly goal. Rittich has.

Wow there's a game?
You're right, nobody seems to care any more.
I hope they destroy the No Goods with no pressure/attention on them.
Not even beginning to hold my breath though.

Agreed. But also on expectations, one was signed to a star contract and the other came into the season barely having played any games in a year and hung out to try by Ward in the final game of the playoffs.
Agree with what you said but so far Rittich is playing "better" when also factoring that in.

Agreed. Markstrom's issue is he can't stop enough of the tough ones.
Out of the 58 goaltenders that have played 500 or more minutes this year ...
HDSV% Rank
Markstrom 31st
Rittich 8th
MDSV% Rank
Markstrom 48th
Rittich 53rd
LDSV% Rank
Markstrom 21st
Rittich 21st
Yikes what a season ...
Calgary would be riding Rittich if it wasn't for that medium stats.

The Flames are going to get spanked. 12-0 and somehow McDavid ends up with 15 points.
Fed up with this mediocre organization.

Flames are about to get blown out and it's the classic McDavid pointless last game so he will get his 3 or so points tonight.
