Default Canucks re-sign Demko. 5 years/$25 M (5 M AAV)

Vancouver is re-signing goaltender Thatcher Demko to a 5 year/$25 M contract extension as per TSN's Frank Seravelli.

As per TSN. 5 m AAV

Seems like both a lot of money and term. I don't mind Demko, but I haven't seen consistency worthy of that contract.

Will be interesting to see who out-performs who between Demko and Markstrom. Both signed for the next 5 years, one making $6M and the other making $5M.

Other than being absolutely god-tier since February and in the play-offs last year.

I've been super bullish on Demko and think that this signing is perfect.

Seems like a pretty good contract based on Binnington and Markstrom as comparables.
It goes right through his prime, and has reasonable cap hit and term.

There's risk, but it could pay off. Props to the Canuck's goaltending coach. He seems to be working some magic lately.

Definitely could be a high value contract. Not a lot of teams can say they have an upper-tier goalie locked in at $5M. If Demko can keep rolling and building momentum, it’ll look like a hell of a deal.

I'm gonna call it. He's gonna look like the Carter Hart of this season next year when his new contract kicks in. At least, that's what I hope lol.

Well he's been a lot better than Markstrom this year. So that doesn't seem bad.

The risk is he doesn't have a long track record of success and with goalies you're always rolling the dice it seems.

Was always going to be tight next year, ergo the "2 years" thing by Benning.

Not a bad deal, but paying for potential. Would you rather have Demo or for 1 mil a year more, Vancouvers version of Markstrom?

Is that Markstrom ever coming back? That's the million-dollar question!

I think he's shown enough that he's worth this commitment. If he can maintain his level of play this deal will look pretty good for the Canucks.

62 NHL games played and signs a huge long term extension. Remember when RFA used to mean something before EDM and TOR screwed it up?

I'd agree if we weren't buying 3 years of UFA

Singing your own RFA is a lot different than singing a UFA with multiple teams offering

Time will tell...Canucks also have over 9M in goal now
