Ghost is still a useful player. Waiving him is for cap and team flexibility reasons. Losing him would suck, but it was a calculated risk to be able to move him up and down.
Right now and in the next couple years, the Flyers need cap space more than they need Ghost.

If he had positive value he would have been claimed. Clearing waivers if literally evidence he has no positive value

All that was proved is that teams don’t have cap flexibility and for the ones that do they likely hold on for more lucrative players that could become available in the offseason.
This is a result of the flat cap imo and not Ghost as a player.

I dont believe that's true. The entire league is clutching their pursestrings tightly. Meaning even players 9f value at any amount save league minimum aren't going to get claimed. If it was any other time in Normal circumstance we wouldn't see players like Ghost on waivers, or the Derek Ryan's for that matter.
The context of the current environment the league is trying to operate under is very important.
Ghost may not be worth his salary ATM, but he has value.

He cleared waivers today as was mentioned earlier so it was a good move. Any ideas who they are going after in a trade? Ekholm or a goalie it seems?

Means nothing of the sort.
It means only that they dont want to/cannot add that salary to their own cap.
Thats why its entirely possible he still gets traded with money going back to the Flyers.
I mean thats the exact same scenario that landed Kristian Huselius in Calgary. He was placed on waivers by the Panthers one day, cleared the next day, and the Flames traded Montador for him a day after that.

Also people here are assuming that NHL GMs are actually good at asset management.
Which I would argue tends to be generally false.

Cause the Flames didnt want Montador either.
I have no doubts they can trade him if they take back another unwanted salary.
His value is less then his contact. Thats a negative net value.
So it's relatively worse then no value

What it means is that no one in the league is willing to take his contract on without sending equivalent contract back the other way, or at least send some contract back. Since most teams are at or near the cap or budget limits imposed on them, they have to find a way to make the deal work financially. It could also be that the team interested in him would like him to be on their taxi squad to begin with, so the Flyers can place him on their taxi squad then trade him as part of that roster. There are lots of reasons for a player clearing waivers, not having any value is but one. Based on his play, production, and cap hit, that is not the case. Gostisbehere is still a quality player that is attractive, teams just need to be able to send equivalent salary back to make a deal.

As much as I want something to happen, I don't think anything shakes out till after the expansion draft. Just boring hockey till then.

We don't want Ghost-he's one of the worst D-men in the league in his own zone, and the offence he's putting up these days doesn't make up for it.

Patrick and Lindblom for Johnny half retained is almost a wash. Plus the next 9 firsts, of course.
