Pretty much nobody in hockey does that though, and it surprises me that it doesn't seem to be more analyzed/considered considering it usually happens 3+ times a game.
Getting the stick and coming back to the play yourself seems like the worst possible option to me. Take advantage of the line change and send a player who will have a head start, forward momentum, and is facing the play.

Matthew Tkachuk makes his money drawing penalties, playing hard down low, and in front of the blue paint/ tipping pucks, picking up rebounds.
He is an absolute awful skater, he blows a tire every single shift, and has the worst hands i have seen on anyone, even worse than Lucic. Every time the puck comes to him, its a turn over. Its a grenade on his stick.
Anyone see him back check the other night? He literally dove and tried to draw a penalty, which was embarrassing to watch. He couldn't catch the guy on Winnipeg, and then fell down.
He is not a 7 million dollar player, and THANK GOD we signed him to a 3 year deal, because he will be getting a pay cut on his next contract. He is absolutely a second line winger, with PP capabilities for net front presence.
Don't ask him to skate with the puck, and don't ask him to handle the puck, or it will be a failure.
If he isn't tipping pucks, or causing havoc, he is useless.

He is a very good passer with elite(?) Level instincts when he is on. He is an immature, reckless player when he is off. His skating is definitely a concern. If he stays I hope he can work on his skating and hope Darryl can help him mature.
We can extend him before having to pay the 1 year 9 mil can't we?

Tkachuk needs to evolve his game like Perrty, Marchant, Burrows all did.
Teams know not to retaliate with him after the whistle and refs aren't giving him the benefit of the doubt as much for drawing penalties.
He's not a great skater but a smart player. He is good at getting in front of the net for tips and screens. Need to keep playing a hard game and getting in dirty areas. He'll evolve and not too worried about him.

Tkachuk can be re-signed as early as the first day of UFA in this offseason. The problem here is that his family connections make it highly unlikely that he will do so. His father, Keith, was a ruthless negotiator who arguably cashed in on a much higher-paying NHL career than his on-ice value. I would expect nothing less from Tkachuk—he has nothing to lose by playing out the season and signing his QO, unless the Flames are prepared to buy those UFA years at a higher cost.

Only 2 years left on the Gio, Tkachuk and Gaudreau deals. How time flies.
This team going to look very different in a couple of seasons.

I don’t know if I’d call Tkachuk a very good passer. If decision making is part of the equation there are sure a lot of blind passes from him.
If he really works on skating and his shot it would do a lot good.

"Keith."
I still continue to get messed up on spelling that correctly, and in contravention of the "I-before-E" rule.

I believe they are both represented by his uncle. I would assume the same for Brady.

The puck did break out and they all got a change...what makes it the wrong play? Personally I would rather have a guy with his proper stick on the ice instead of making two guys worse. Never get that.."here is a stick that is too short and the wrong hand...now we both suck". If anything switch positions.
