The last thing one should do on a backcheck is to look for a call. Just skate as hard as you can. Even if Scheifle did outrace him, there is no chance he gets the time to wind up for a one timer if chucky at least tries to stay with him.

Tkachuk would have been right at home on the 2006 era Canucks with that dive. Lucky he didn’t get called for embellishment.

As mentioned, this is not applied the same. Gaudreau did the exact same year or two ago and called back. Have to find it.

Probably right. It just looked like he purposely directed it in.

A kicked in goal and a clear missed boarding call is all you need to know about this game.

That Tkachuck play is embarrassing. Terrible. Sutter needs to solve antics like that.

I thought the rule is that it can't be a goal if the puck is INTENTIONALLY kicked in the direction of the net? Not if the puck is kicked in general, and deflected into the net.
The latter is okay. If you don't allow that, then you can't do kick passes or anything else of the manner also then. The video couldn't prove it was a deliberate deflection to the net, so it being a good goal is the right call.

Dynamic duo of 4 and 19 connecting to undo a decent period.
Ship them both out.

That is how I see it as well. Could have went either way, but I saw it as a redirect.

Refs never miss a puck batted down with a high stick, but they sure miss a lot of obvious penalties and goals/no goals.

That kick goal was absolute trash. Embarrassing to watch the refs #### that up so badly. Jesus.

Yeah, at what point does it become a kick? I thought it looked blatant until the slowmo angle, where it looked like he stuck his skate out to redirect it.
But then his skate follows through into the air somewhat. Hard to call, but I didn't disagree with the call.
As you said though, that exact goal would be reversed by different refs or with different teams involved, for sure.

He swung his leg forward. At the time of contact it was well ahead of his body. That's not directing, that is a kicking motion. Redirecting means you are turning your foot, not moving it forward. The latter is by definition a kick.

Helluva basketball game on right now.
I’m still fuming about Tkachuk trying to sell a phantom penalty instead of hustling back on a 2 on 1.

Why is he sticking his leg out like that if not to deflect the puck? It's deliberate imo.

Right. The D are OK to pinch if they have coverage, which he should have had.

They need to get rid of the kicked in rule. Such a dumb rule to begin with. Players don't give a #### about player safety anyways, just ask Dubois. So no reason to protect it if you are worried about that aspect.
