Ryan leads the team in GF% this season, so increasing his ice time would seem to make sense. However it gets harder to do this if the team falls behind early. Getting the first goal will be key tonight.

Well Appleton had all day in the slot to get the first shot off. So that goal and Giordano's both deflect in off guys but I think that type of goal is quite common. Even Stanley had lots of time to get his shot off.

So if you want to play that game all 6 goals in that game were fluke plays. I just think Brossoit clearly botched 3 of those plays. I'm not so sure Rittich botched the two against him. If Stanley has a more normal amount of time and space he likely shoots lower and Rittich is well positioned to stop that.

But hey keep defending the Flames blindly. They were maybe due for a turn in luck, maybe this starts something. But this team is not getting anymore benefit of the doubt from me. I won't respect anything they do until they prove it.

I like to think GF means something different when it comes to Ryan and a couple other examples.

I’ve been impressed by Dube a lot. I can’t remember ever watching Janko and thinking “wow”.

Sutter's trying to teach them and others in the lineup that the only thing that matters is what you put on the ice each and every night. And if a 30-year old journeyman defensemen staring down what might be his last games in the NHL is putting out more, then by golly he's in the lineup and not you if you took last game off. For the players that are likely to be here long term it teaches away from complacency and for those who might be only here to slot into sparingly, it squeezes that little bit of useful hockey at the NHL level that they might have left in them.

I was not a fan at all of Stone coming in last game for Valimaki (Nesterov has been a lot worse) but Stone played way better than anyone could've possibly hoped and deserves another game.

Plus, after thinking about it, even if I think Nesterov deserved to sit much more than Valimaki, this should serve as a wake up call to Valimaki as he hasn't been nearly as good as I was hoping.

Now, Dube not being in in favor of Nordstrom or Ritchie, that's a different discussion. Sutter obviously hasn't been happy with Dube and even after Dube said he needed to perform better after his in-game benching, he clearly didn't do enough the following games to please Sutter so he earned a game or two in the press box. But seeing Nordstrom and Ritchie in the lineup just makes me shutter

No one commented on my last post, but I think making Dube sit a few games then bringing him back in his actual natural position could be a huge boon for his development. Dube is a centre.

It is crazy how a guy can be dubbed the best player in one league and come in and just pass as an NHL regular.

But he has plenty of potential to fill out. And even though defense is the harder position, I expected his performance to translate better than Puljujarvi's but it hasn't really.

Would not upset me at all if Backlund is benched. He's been awful lately and sorry being a new dad is a lame excuse.

Having a young player sit and watch a few games from the box is not necessarily a bad thing.
I wasn’t sure about Stone either, but I was pleasantly surprised to see how much he brought to the back end last game. Both his physicality on guys entering the zone, and big shots from the point that actually made it through, were things this team were missing.

I hear you, Dube is a different player with different skills no doubt. But IMO there is some revisionism going on if people are claiming they were never that impressed by Jankowski. Flames #1 ranked prospect in 2017 and #2 in 2016 on CP. Go back and look at the comments and they were rather flowery and no one claiming it was a weak prospect pool.

So I can't really buy that Dube is on some wildly different arc as things stand today.

But more importantly, kudos to the 5 CP posters who voted Fox as the team's best prospect in 2017. They're looking pretty smart.

Also kind of sad to read through the thread and see all the banned posters, including MMF's failed return as the IrishSpring poster.

TBF Pulju actually had the massive benefit of pretty significant NHL experience prior to this season. He's had a lot of time to get used to the faster pace of the NHL. Valimaki still has time.

But, IMO, Valimaki's struggles to adapt are also a good reason we should not trade Monahan straight across for Lundell. Finnish league stats don't mean ####.

I kind of just get the sense Sutter isn’t a big fan of Dube. He’s benched him multiple times and now has scratched him two games in a row.

And honestly outside of a few games this year Dube’s been pretty underwhelming, and downright invisible for some long stretches.

I have no issues with him sitting for a few games.

I’ve actually never been as big of a critic of Stone as many others because in general I don’t see a lot of what many of his detractors do.

His underlying number may be bad but he has never been a major liability in my eyes so my initial disappointment was more to do with Nesterov not being replaced by Valimaki in the lineup.

After thinking about it more and reading all the comments I’m more understanding and I do believe this will light a fire in Valimaki so it could only be a good thing as Valimaki is extremely vocal about how high his expectations are of himself.

Dube is a bit of a different story but hopefully this has a positive impact on both and they earn their way back into the lineup in short order.

LMAO...jesus christ dude. You strike me as a bit of a DB, and I can only assume that you've never done it.

If you need wins, nothing wrong with putting in someone dependable and having fewer people learning on the job

Go Flames. Another 4-2 win
