Scoring Winger

I have full faith this is building fire within Dube and Valimaki. These guys are long term players here and this is molding them the way the Flames need them to be in their prime. Monahan, Gaudreau and Bennett would be much better off if they were handled and pushed the same way in their early years.
Ritchie and Stone bring what Sutter wants right now. They are in must win territory and playing the vets is Sutter style. They are the short term option while the young guys learn and see what it takes. I have no issues with this, Darryl knows what he's doing and I think this hits on many positive fronts.

Weren't you pro Sutter and the issue was Ward?
He's trying to change the culture of a stunted roster any way he can. Good! I don't like the lineup either, but I'm going to assume a guy with his level of experience is now firmly arriving at the need to disrupt a team that will never win in the current way they approach the game and getting themselves ready.

Yeah that wouldn’t be my first choice for the lineup, but I’m not going to question Darryl

100% right on!
The coach’ s sole focus is on icing a winning lineup, not giving a “soother” to Valimaki and Dube!

Benching a couple of young guys who have had inconsistent efforts to bring in a couple of good team guys who have been giving it 100% is exactly what this team needs. The lines might not be pretty but the outrage over this is funny. Maybe if Bennett was treated like this he wouldn't have been a major bust.

I’m fine with Stone being in but Valimaki should be in over Nesterov then.
I can’t stand the look of that lineup...
So many holes

I dunno if it’s outrage.
We are where we are so I think collectively we are just fed up with the team in general so it is what it is.
I agree that Valimaki and Dube are long term pieces so it’s not anything to worry about but it still kinda sucks is all.

Meh...Valimaki has been very underwhelming I'm fine with these pairings for now.
As for the forwards, questionable lines but who knows it may pay off...it's mainly Nordstrom that makes it look blegh

Yeah I agree. I think at this point the frustration with fans is leading to anger at any little move. It is what it is and at this point I'm just trying to enjoy what is left for the season and am happy to see them implement the changes to the lineup that build on the value of working hard and playing the right way every shift. Lay the foundation for next year.

If this is directed towards me - I was absolutely anti-Ward, but was not on the “it’s all Ward” train. I was, and am pro-Sutter - and was and am definitely on the side that thinks this core group needs huge changes (I want them to “sell” before the deadline and in the summer).
Largely, none of this matters - but I guess I’d say if Sutter was trying to change the culture, then why are the players at the root of the culture issue still playing? “Demoting” Mangiapane and having Leivo and Ritchie play with Tkachuk/Lindholm/Gaudreau/Monahan is a move worth questioning.
So far, we’ve seen Tkachuk’s minutes reduced, Valimaki and Dube scratched, while Gio, Ritchie and Backlund’s roles all grow. I’d argue the leadership group of Gio/Backlund/Monahan is the group of players that this team needs to grow beyond, and move on from...but I guess we’ll see how it goes.

No sorry ... not meant for you ... added the correct reply detail to my post above.
I don't like the line up either, but I'm happy to see some messages being sent.
I don't see the fourth line as the fourth line though when you have Nordstrom and Ritchie on other lines.
That line looks more like line two

Yeah, I’d say it’s pretty much the only line entirely composed of NHL players.
I’m happy to see messages sent, and would like to see some stronger messages sent, but perhaps right before the trade deadline isn’t the opportune moment to scratch players you’re hopefully trading...

Maybe I'm crazy, but I actually think Dube would fare better as a centre and that we should stop shoe horning him on to whatever wing on whatever line is performing worst objectively. IIRC he was drafted as a centre.
He did need the wakeup call, but when he's back I'd like to see him centering a line and see if that yields any results. Perhaps when Bennett is moved there will be an opportunity to see this in action.

I was anti-Ward, yes. I am pro Sutter. That doesn't mean bizarre lineup changes can't be analyzed.
My original post was a shot at BT, not Darryl.

Maybe the young guys are the problem then?
Maybe there is a split in the room between the vets and others when it comes to what direction the coach wants and who is or isnt buying in?
Who knows, but certainly trust Sutter to identify whatever it is and send the right message to the right people.

If anything Backlund's line is the 4th line. We'll see how the icetime goes...
