Media coverage plays a large part...easier to suck when nobody really cares

It's not an excuse just an observation...1993

Fans didn't show up when the Flames missed the playoffs 7 years in a row...almost lost the team

Because there was no hope. Canadian teams were not able to compete in that environment. The lockout fixed it. Rebuilds can be sold as fun too. As long as you are not a farm team for Detroit or Colorado.

Are you saying pro sports team that get a lot of media attention are at a disadvantage? I don’t believe the results across all of sports will bear that out and
I can’t think of why hockey would be different.

I just can’t buy that the Flames operate in some pressure cooker environment.

There are other reasons why the Canadian franchises have struggled. A lot of people talk about how UFA’s don’t want to play here but I’d argue you need to look higher up the food chain. The Canadian franchises have made some bad decisions at the GM level, and maybe it’s partly because they’ve had a hard time attracting talent at that level.

So all the Canadian teams have made bad hires for 30 years?

UFAs are obviously a factor...Canadian teams are basically on every no trade list. Are you honestly trying to suggest its just as easy to be a GM in Calgary as say Vegas or SJ?

Other sports? Hockey is a little different, I can't think of another sport where it is without a doubt #1 in some cities and #4 in others.

Its not all one thing but these are all factors.

Imagine randomly picking 6-7 teams to win the cup in the next 30 years and not hitting once lol. There is obviously more than bad luck going on.

I also think the days of full buildings in Canada no matter what are over except maybe in TO and Montreal
