Dunn requested a trade earlier this season, didn't he?
Or there were rumours that he was being talked about around the league.

Wouldnt be surprised if the Blues are making a move....they have been dreadful the last 3 weeks or so.
2 more points than the Flames.
They may just be sending a message too...Berube isnt shy about it.

Both Dunn and Hoffman have looked average to terrible this season. Both players have been pretty overrated over the past couple of years actually. I wouldn't be surprised if they are just scratched because of their play.

Sure, but team won't rebuild and unless Eichel is traded, what do you suggest for a centre that is better than Lindholm and Monahan.

Centers are the hardest players to get in a deal, especially those with high ceilings. The odds of trading for one is pretty small as they rarely hit the market. The Flames do not have the assets to make a deal without without doing irreparable damage to the roster and prospect base.

Horde the assets and get Eichel.
At this point, every other trade that we could make takes away bullets we could use for a #1C.
So until it’s certain that player is not moving, we should not be spending things that we may need to get him.
Because if Eichel is traded, and it isn’t to us, that’s pathetic. It’s pathetic no matter what, but it’s way worse if we miss out because we gave up trade pieces for lesser players.

Hoffman is no good. One dimensional scorers don't help you win.
Not a coincidence the Panthers are better off without him.
Panthers are interesting. Quenneville needed a full year to get them to buy in, gives me hope for Sutter here for the next two seasons.
They got rid of one dimensional forwards like Hoffman and Dadanov and replaced them with two way forwards like Hornqvist and Wennberg. Maybe lucked out on Carter Verhaeghe or maybe just good pro scouting as the guy produced well in the minors and has good size. Brought in Gudas on the backend.

Again, Florida has two key pieces that the Flames do not.
An elite #1C and an elite #1D both in their primes.

I hope Darryl is really able to help Rasmus. I had hopes he was the #1D of the future based on his progression. This year has been a struggle and I wonder if his contract is playing into it.
But I agree with what you’re saying. They have some elite talent at key positions.

Speaking of Panthers, Ekblad went down with what appears to be a serious injury.
Hope he will be ok, but might be an opportunity for us if they are looking to replace. Gio might be of interest if they are looking to fill hole externally.

Plus Huberdeau who is better than any current Flame regardless of position. But that’s a #1, #2 and #3 OA pick, which Calgary has never had the “luxury” of selecting. To Florida’s credit they all panned out and Gudbranson is the only recent high pick that they flubbed.

Yeah, and Florida drafted top three, four of five years in a row including a #1 (Ekblad) and a #2 (Barkov). That's what you have to do to get that type of core pieces. You want the Flames to be that bad for five years?

I used to like Vince Dunn-he looked like he would develop into a top pairing guy some day. Not sure what happened this year, but Berube obviously doesn't like him.

Well you did say if they trade too much for Eichel it would “cripple the franchise” so theoretically the Flames would then have Eichel and be able to pick top five for a couple years and get those core pieces they need right?
