False quotations

"When good men do nothing"

The statement that "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing" is often attributed to Burke despite the debated origin of this quote.[178][179]

In 1770, it is known that Burke wrote in "Thoughts on the Cause of the Present Discontents":

[W]hen bad men combine, the good must associate; else they will fall, one by one, an unpitied sacrifice in a contemptible struggle.[180][181]

In 1867, John Stuart Mill made a similar statement in an inaugural address delivered before the University of St. Andrews:

Bad men need nothing more to compass their ends, than that good men should look on and do nothing.[182]

Yeah I know it's a contested quote although Burke seems to be the one who mostly gets credit for it. Either way I wasn't serious about it. However I don't know what Stuart Mills has to do with it, Burke was dead before Mills was even born.

Honestly this team needs major changes and should be selling UFAs but my guess is any major changes will be in the offseason. I could see it being a bit like the 14-15 season where maybe we sell some pieces but still end the season strong. Honestly playoffs still aren't out of the question.

We've been horrible against the Sens and Oilers which is what's killed the team this year. Been okay against the Leafs and Jets. And have controlled the Habs and Canucks.

Senators: 2-4-1 (2 games remaining: 2-0-0)
Oilers: 2-4 -0 (4 games remaining: 2-1-1)
Leafs: 2-3-1 ( 3 games remaining: 2-1-0)
Jets: 2-2-1 (4 games remaining: 2-1-1)
Montreal: 3-1-0 (5 games remaining: 3-1-1)
Canucks: 4-2-0 ( 4 games remaining: 2-1-1)

13-5-4 would give them 30 more points and they would finish with 63 points.

Habs: 25 Games Remaining - 12-12-1 for 62 points. (Would be 10-9-1 in the games not against the Flames - which is about the pace they've played in their last 10)

Canucks: 19 Games remaining - 12-6-1 for 62 points

Montreal hasn't been great recently, just need them to start losing more games in regulation. If you can take the head to head games against the Habs then you have a shot still.

Just treat it like the season starts new today and you just need to win the series against the 6 teams you are facing.

But I also like tipping points ... the team is either good and you go for it, or just not working out and change is needed. I don't always trust management (ownership) to see that line when it comes.

I have it at 5 losses. That's it for the rest of the season in 22 games. So as much as I'll be cheering for a win tonight and tomorrow night, there is certainly a silver lining in dropping both games, and making the writing on the wall in neon flashing lights...
I think an NHL hockey team is a lot like the Titanic: too damn big to turn on a dime, and by the time it changes course it is already too late.

Not sure why, but the third straight coach who tends to play him fleetingly. I hope he is able to find a way to work himself into the lineup.
Yeah it's hard to say what it is. He seems to work hard in games, so you'd think the same in practice, plus he must want to prove himself. I'm sure his defensive shortcomings don't help his cause, though I haven't noticed any glaring mistakes in his recent games. Could be more obvious in practice. Loved his play on that Lindholm goal.

I'm sure I have blinders as with his speed it's exciting to watch as a fan, you imagine this dynamic quick puck moving D. Which most likely won't happen and the league could have had him for free. I just don't think he's been given his fair shot so far.

There are only two pending UFAs to sell that have much value: Rittich and Ryan. Unless you assume no QO for Tkachuk or Bennett. The rest are taxi/4th line semi-regulars. I suppose you might get something for Nesterov if a team wants a 7D for the POs.

Of course, with his strong NTC, for trade purposes, Johnny is kind of like a pending UFA.

Let's be honest here, we're not going 2-0 vs the Sens

Honestly that was the part I was looking at that felt the most unrealistic.

Which is crazy.

Nine defensemen have played 500 or more minutes for the Flames in the last two plus years.

Kylington is ranked 8th in CF% and xGF% five on five, ahead of Michael Stone in both cases.

He just hasn't been that reliable.

There's more there, but this is coach number three that doesn't have him in as a regular.

I think you guys win this one tonight.

And I’m pretty sure even if you guys had pick number 3 you’d be picking Bennett there. Lowe was quoted as saying when he looked over after drafting Drai, the flames table was cheering and high fiving.

There's more there, but this is coach number three that doesn't have him in as a regular.

I think a big part of the problem is not having a steady, stabalizing veteran dman that he's been paired with.

Here's who he's played with over the last two seasons (>25 Minutes), sorted by xGF%

Yelesin - 42 Minutes - 63.2 xGF%
Valimaki - 54 Minutes - 54.3 xGF%
Andersson - 393 Minutes - 50.7 xGF%
Hamonic - 36 Minutes - 50.4 xGF%

Davidson - 51 Minutes - 47.5 xGF%
Stone - 84 Minutes - 33.0 xGF%

When he's been paired with other NHL dmen like Valimaki and Andersson he's been fine. The struggles have been when he's playing with washed out players like Davidson or Stone.

Going a bit deeper if you go over the last two seasons:

Kylington with Stone: 33.0 xGF%
Kylington with Davidson: 47.5% xGF%
Kylington without Stone or Davidson: 52.0% xGF%

IMO they still have an NHL d-man there, they just need to find him a defensive partner he can work with.

I'd love to see what he would look like with a steady, reliable guy like Tanev next to him for a 10 game stretch.

Tkachuk doesnt need a QO this year.

You may be right, as they were all ranked quite closely at the time...
Regardless, Lowe is a dick and cannot be trusted...so this is clearly a lie

Good point for sure.

But I'd also argue that Rasmus Andersson and Juuso Valimaki as examples were able to prove their mettle in unfavourable pairings and earn the ability to gain the veteran partner.

Kylington really hasn't.

And the Flames were double digit points above the Oilers in the franchise worst season. It wasn't the Flames winning one too many.

I would LOVE to see a big trade involving a core player, just so I could feel excited again to watch Flames game. To see how they do without that player or to see how a new, incoming player fits in. Right now, it's hard to be excited about any of these games. The Sens suck, but here in Ottawa everyone is loving watching Stuetzle play and develop. They at least have hope for the future. Ours is pretty bleak

A throw-back to the 1980's - 9-6 and 5 points for Loob.
