Great captain Iggy got past the first round one time too. Team just isn't very good right now, to blame it on one 37 year old is dumb.
|
He’s 37 years old and still giving it his all. Father Time catches up to all players. The difference is the coaching staff still puts him in situations which was only reasonable when he was younger and didn’t lose a step. Sure he is getting slightly less time this year, but more often than not, he is still averaging 21-23 mins a game with both PK and PP time.

Great player. Deserved his Norris trophy. Arguably deserved two.
Has been a shell of his former self for a couple seasons now. Time catches up with all of us.
Not a great captain, IMO. And I said the same when he was a top d-man in the league. Your captain needs to be more than a PR asset.

The Mark Messier Leadership Plan for success comprises two steps:
1. Get drafted by Wayne Gretzkey's Edmonton Oilers.
2. Sign a UFA deal with the richest hockey team on earth.

I never said he was lazy or didn't try hard. he just isn't a very good captain.
I mean he was my favourite dman for years here. Even when everyone here thought Phaneuf was the next Bobby Orr. Hated it when Sutter banished him to the KHL. Total warrior, dishing huge hits and blocking every shot coming at him.
He's broken.
I guess it's not really his fault if Ward and Sutter keep putting him out in key situations and on the PP. They should have started cutting his minutes last year and this year they should have started to bench him and making him a 5/6 d.

It is too bad that he was not able to make player for player trades like the following teams have been able to do since Covid
Toronto
Pittsburgh
Buffalo
Minnesota
Florida
LA
Chicago
Columbus
Montreal
Ottawa
Nashville
Winnipeg
New Jersey
Colorado
Tampa
Carolina

How many wins would we have this season without Gaudreau on our team? 7?
I'm actually done with Gaudreau on this team. I want him gone. He'll put up 100points/season on his new team and win a cup in his career. Well unless we trade him to the Canucks.
|
How many wins? Who knows. The last win (Toronto) he was -2 and had zero points. The one before that (Edmonton) he was -1 and no points . The two before that (Montreal), zero points. The two wins before that were blowouts against Ottawa, and they win with or without him his points. The last game he was instrumental in winning was the OT win against the Canucks. What a contributor.

And it's got him lots of rings. Which is what people care for when they think about great captains of any team for any sport. Captains of teams that have a period of strong playoff success.
They don't ask how they did it. They ask how much.

Gio has a ntc does he not?
And yes, I am completely done with MT and JG, so frustrating to watch.

Gio had a modified trade clause. He can submit a list of 19 teams to be traded to.

And this makes him the worst captain in team history lol
its a dumb take...like even for CP
Try and trade him, don't protect him ect. sure but lets not act like 5 year olds here. Gio wants to win bad, he just doesn't have it like he used to.
Captains are over rated...If I was the captain of the Lightning we would still be in first place (assuming they didn't let me off the bench)

Take a look at those deals and tell me which one you see as the solution to the Flames's fortunes. Dubois would have been a great pickup, but the Flames were in no position to match the offer from Winnipeg.

I don’t think he a bad captain at all, to be honest. I was just mentioning how it’s not his fault he’s being put in theses situations. He still gives it his all.
I don’t even think there is anyone on the roster who should or replace the C. As of now.

Gio hasn’t played well this year and I do think this team could use a cleansing. But don’t strip him of his C. Eat some money and deal him to a contender.

Well of course it is for CP's resident apologist. I mean you must stroke out every time you see a post criticizing the Flames... lol
Do you have a few nephews on the team?

I criticize the Flames plenty...I just don't find one scape goat to blame it all on
Calling Gio the worst captain in Flames history is just plain stupid

I never said that either. He is playing to the best of his abilities and for the past 2 years it has been crap. Some pretty boneheaded plays but not lazy. Just bad...

It’s a stupid take, even if it’s based on success, since Joe N was captain of a talented team for years and won zero PO rounds (see also Fleury, Smith, Lowry, Simpson, Conroy, Boughner, and Iginla except for one year).
