Default Arcade Fire

Arcade Fire on SNL tonight.

Neon Bible arrives March 6th. Early reviews are good:

Modest Mouse puts out We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank, March 20th:

Interested in both of those releases. Despite the metacritic review of 'Neon Bible' I have heard dark rumblings of it being a poor follow up to Funerals. There haven't been any 2007 releases that have wowed me yet but I have hopes for the modest mouse one
Come to think of it the new deerhoof is quite good.

I don't trust reviews, especially in the Arcade Fire's case. They are a good band but the hype surrounding them is just insane. I am definitely getting the album but will try to ignore all the indie snob press that goes along with it, and judge it on its own merits.

I lost interest in Modest Mouse long ago.

Neon Bible is pretty ok. It doesn't seem to have the hooks that Funeral had, but as a follow up to a pretty good album it's passable.

I'm really looking foreward to the new Modest Mouse, hopefully they had everyone healthy enough to record together for a change.

Really looking forward to this one, stumbled on to "funeral" and was blown away, great record, though it'll be tough to the Decemberists "crane wife" out of the cd player, amazing album.

"Want to to know why Arcade Fire ran off the stage during the closing credits of "Saturday Night Live" last night?

Because, in something that is apparently rarely done at Studio 8H, they played a mini-concert for the audience. Making up the front row of the 3-song set was Seth Meyers, Amy Poehler, Fred Armisen, Bill Hader and Andy Samberg, all looking absolutely transfixed by this band. The Fire has some high-powered fans, for sure, and converted a good chunk of the audience last night as well.

It's odd that my highlight of the show happened off-camera-- at the end of their three-song set, they played "Wake Up", off the stage and in the audience. Amazing. The cameras were rolling, I'm hoping this appears somewhere.

I caught it......it looked like he broke a few guitar strings and got a little upset, so he decided to smash his guitar.

Really good performance, though.

They actually did something quite similar when they played Mac Hall in autumn '05. After finishing their set/encore(s), the band marched off stage single file, still playing, and led the crowd out the doors into the Mac Hall foyer (Pied Piper-style), where they did an impromptu hoe-down for those lucky enough to be in the vicinity. As the band filed out on the opposite side of the auditorium, I couldn't get very close, and Mac Halls' fantastic ######-bag concert security made sure my efforts to get closer were thwarted.

This must be something of a signature theme for the Arcade Fire; apparently, they have also played a busker-style mini-set to passers-by in a Manhattan subway station. Wonder if people caught on or not.

I've had Neon Bible on my ipod for a couple of months now, and it just hasn't lured me in the way Funeral did. I still like it, though - as mentioned, it makes a competent follow-up. And I am definitely pleased as punch that a group like this is doing so well. Nice work!

The thing with Neon Bible is that you need to listen front to back in order to appreciate it. I had trouble with the first few times i listened as i had it on shuffle... but after i listened song 1 to song whatever it became a much better album.

The singles off it are not nearly as strong as the Neighbourhood singles on the old one.

Overall... i have been listening to it quite a bit... but as someone mentioned before it hasnt usurped the Decembrists from the top of the playlist... or built to spill - you in reverse for that matter.
