This is pretty much the same team that finished 1st a couple seasons ago. Blowing this up wood be a mistake.

Flames ownership has always chosen a supposed winning philosophy(never tank) over a complete rebuild. Unfortunately, I can't see that changing now. The Flames are destined for mediocrity.

Those players don't seem to be here anymore. And that team finished first and then got annihilated in the first round. Blow up won't happen but retool and new gm are a must.

That team caught lightning in a bottle and then unveiled their true identity in the playoffs. Their last 4 actual playoff series are probably closer to what they actually are then just the few months where they blitzed they league in 18-19.
In a nutshell, that 50 win team was a mirage. This is a fundamentally flawed team.

Saddly Matt seems to be holding that Toronto incident over the team which is really unfair considering how well he gets paid. He has this disinterested look like a part of him shut down in that looker room. Before that he was scoring some really exciting goals and trying to carry the team.
Organization needs to sit down with Matt and apologize, or find out what we need to do to get him back to his old self.

No, they need to trade him for a premium. He isn't, and won't be worth, the 9 million he will get 9n his next contract. He is the piece on the team that will bring the biggest return in a trade, if they want to rebuild he will bring back a huge part of the future.

Sorry for giving you heck and trying to teach you not to be a spoiled brat? If that’s why he isn’t playing because he can’t have tantrums anymore might as well trade him

I guess my point is they have to fix it if they want to move forward...
Matt is no longer driving the bus, he is a huge part of the reason the Flames are playing the way they are.
This problem started before Matt when a couple other lines kept taking nights off. He was the guy driving the bus in spite of everyone else giving crappy efforts... I think he just gave up when they wouldn't back him.

Just trade everyone besides the obvious and make a quick 2-3 turn around rebuild.
Sick of seeing teams start rebuilds after us and having a 10x better team in a shorter time.

Let's say Johnny gets traded before the deadline. What kind of return are the Flames looking at?

Ottawa is already better than us and has way more potential upside.
That should be all the evidence anyone needs to hit the rebuild button.

You don’t finish 1st by catching lightning in a bottle. Mark my words, this team will make the playoffs this season.

There is little to no chance of that happening. It’s time to retool, if not fully rebuild. Johnny needs to be traded with 50% retained to maximize his value. As does Gio. They just lost TWICE IN A ROW to Ottawa! It’s time to finally take a long hard look in the mirror. It’s time to lean into being bad and at least do that right for once. Trading away talent will help the team rebuild as well as help them lose. Who else is tired of the Flames finishing in the middle of the pack? Not good enough to win in the playoffs nor bad enough to draft high. At least figure out how to be bad Flames! Lean into your strength!

2013: "This is part of the same core that went to the finals in 2004."
Teams don't get success by clinging to flukes of the past in the face of insurmountable evidence to the contrary. This team is weak, and bad.

Hope management doesn't share this belief. There is little to suggest that wasn't bottled lightning. This group has churned through coaches and complimentary components with very little to show except one regular season of success. This season resembles the recent stabs at mediocrity, and even if the team were able to manage to sneak into the playoffs, it speaks volumes that once again there is consternation over the effort to simply secure a spot. The longer this team delays the inevitable roster shuffle, the worse the pain will be for all involved, players, fans and management.

I want the person who fires Treliving to make a TOR/NYR-style pain speech. We are burning it to the ground and rebuilding from the ground up. There will be pain for the foreseeable future.
Then, I want the team not to short circuit the rebuild (no Dougie Hamilton trade, no Travis Hamonic trade). The team needs to rebuild by piling up draft picks until they have what it takes to win in place: strength down the middle (C, D, G).
I want a slow, patient, methodical rebuild.

Blow it UP!
So embarrassing being a fan right now. Can't wait for the Expansion Draft.
