I really don't get this.
He plays all the time and has barely been out of the lineup, but he's always injured, every season?

Something doesn't add up.
Either the injuries aren't that serious, or he's playing through the same nagging thing every season and really needs to get it dealt with.
I'm sure the team would enforce him to do that at some point if it was actually serious.

I think if your first post is attacking the poster instead of the argument you’ve sort of lost the plot and don’t really have anything to backup your beliefs

Also if you think tracking o-zone starts is advanced or nerdy in any way I can’t help you

Or, maybe Monahan is concealing his injuries. Or maybe some injuries just don't heal completely.

This season he has faced the weakest competition amongst the top 9 forwards and has also had the highest % of o-zone starts, which isn’t a huge issue in itself but the fact that he is getting outplayed with this sweetheart usage is the problem. In the past the the competition has been harder for him but the zone starts roughly the same

Concealing from the media and fans, sure.
He's not concealing an injury from the team and physios over 100 games with an extreme dropoff in performance. This is the big leagues.

Isn’t this a rumour pretty much every season? If the guy is hurt all the time then he really shouldn’t be playing. At this point I hope he’s shot out of a cannon along with Gaudreau. Just dump him off on someone in the offseason.

Are we sure there aren’t more guys playing injured? Like maybe half the team?

Is this a regular thing in the NHL to allow injured players to play? Seems weird

Where are you seeing the quality of competition.

Looking at who he plays against the most he’s generally playing against other teams top 6.

You may be right, but lately I noticed him playing against teams 4th lines. Perhaps it's not a trend but then again, you dont see him vs McDavid, Matthews or Schiffele etc.

He was out against Matthews constantly in the last two TO outings. On the road but Sutter had to know that giving him d zone FOs would lead to that matchup.

Or maybe these rumblings of him playing hurt only come out when he is playing like crap?

Injured or not. I would like to see the end of Monahan in Calgary. Need a C that carries the play and skates well. The league is getting too fast for guys like Monahan.

I think it’s fair to say that injuries have contributed to Monahan’s willingness to get into the dirty areas. Whether he is hurt now or not, he no longer is as engaged in the battle areas and his stats are suffering for it.

If your not going to shut him down, at least move him away from Johnny. Johnny’s game is so reliant on a quick trigger centre from his wing that neither are effective.

I think we have already seen the best monahan has to offer, he might be better suited in a shutdown center type role to extend his career

Monahan has a wonky back and shoulder. This isnt news

These also don't really heal.

Did you see our two games without him in the lineup vs Edmonton? Outscored 10-1

As much as we can say "Just don't play him if hurt" he sees how bad we are when hes out. This team has no depth.

It doesnt excuse his poor play. But many a NHL player has seen their production plummet over the years because of injuries. Every body only has so many miles until it goes into the crapper.

If it really is an injury then take time off and heal properly because he is not helphing the team.
This always seems to come up as an excuse, after the fact, that deflects from him having a drop off in play each of the last few seasons.

Assuming he actually is injured again, he is either injury-prone or not tough enough because he doesn't play a real physical game that would lend itself to frequent injuries.
Either way, whatever the case, time to move on from Monny.

This guy gives it all for this franchise.

Let's not forget that Backlund many moons prior went through the same injury cycle before finally getting and staying healthy for long stretches of time.

The problem is, the Flames don't really have the center depth to give Monahan the games off to heal up.

Sucks, but he's a true warrior for this Organization.
Yea, I disagree.

Does his injury negate him from skating hard? From playing with passion? A pulse? I’m not saying he doesn’t have an injury, but to call him a “warrior for this franchise”? Our definitions of “warrior” are different. When has #23 ever proven that when an important game is on the line, he’ll be the one to hop over the boards and make things happen? To go through someone to score the GWG.

And if his injury does prevent him from doing these things, and results in him playing this way? Then he shouldn’t be playing; I don’t care what our depth is.

We need actual warriors that can elevate their game when it matters. We currently have zero of those players.

Injuries or no injuries, this guy does NOT have what it takes to win. Period.

When the going gets tough, Sean Monahan gets going....in the opposite direction.

Some of the takes in this thread are hilarious, though some of you would do well to turn down the homerism a couple of notches. We all watch him play and have for years, you're not fooling anyone. If Monahan is a "warrior" then so is every single NHL player.
