Just a couple of hopeless teams out there.

Apparently boxing out is a penalty

Right in front of the ref too

Gio... this is tough to watch, man. Literally from Norris to 3rd pairing in a season and a half.

This is the subconscious game management call I was talking about. Ref sees a breakaway, sees a guy go down and gets caught up in it, makes a call.

To his credit, Gio was good on that PK.

I tbough they looked very good in that period, but cannot buy a goal right now. It's ridiculous that the score is still 0-0.

Aside from the PP the Flames looked solid, just can't score

Monahan, Mangiapane, Leivo and Bennett with quality chances. 1 per line.

I really liked that period for the Flames. They pretty much owned 75 percent of it. Lines look good, goaltending looks sharp. This is the kind of thing teams can build on and gain confidence. Just keep chipping away and the dam will burst.

I've suspected for a long time now that this generation of refs truly believe they are part of the game. I remember a time when refs would do whatever it took to get out of the way of a puck, or a player, etc... they used to sit up on the boards to let the puck go by, skate out to the middle to let players battle in the corner (in case someone tries to pass the puck up along the boards)... stuff like that. Now they just stand there and block the play.

A player's coming down the wing? Whatever, go around me. You wanna put the puck up the boards? Sucks to be you, cause I'm not moving.

Nevermind how many times something exciting happens in a game, and a ref is right there blowing his whistle (whether there's a "real" penalty or not) like he's part of the play on the ice.

Felt like we got more chances in dangerous areas this game, just got to bury them.

Zero chance NHL refs make calls because they see a guy fall and assume there was a penalty. They either see an infraction or don't, which doesn't correlate directly to whether they make a call or not.

In this case that ref was looking to make a call against the Flames and did. Simple as that. It was soft as hell, and he knows it.

Haven't been able to watch, rookie goalie standing on their head still or perimeter play?

I like how everyone on the broadcast is saying "tonight" like we're all too stupid to know it's 3:30 in the afternoon.

Dube on the top line reminds me of Lindholm when he arrived in Calgary. Filling holes, reading really well where the puck is going to be, getting into the board battles first.

On difference is shot handedness

People watching from BC were barely finished having lunch when this game started.
