Not as many centres just stand there though. I don’t see other 1Cs just hanging out in the slot as much as him. It’s part of his game, so I guess I understand why. Plus he’s a shooter, so he’s gonna get hacked a fair bit by the D.

I wonder if it's because he doesn't fight back as much as others do? Like, he goes to the hard areas and takes a lot of punishment, but he doesn't give much of it back, so it seems like he just gets fed constant cross checks to the lower back, ribs, etc.

Man, that sucks! Seems like a re-occurrence every year at about the same time frame. Guess Johnny will be mostly ineffective for the rest of the season as well. Fore!

I would gladly sacrifice one of the few CP members under the age of 25 and donate their wrist to him.

Well, they are clearly not, so I guess that's that.

According to the poll aka the sacrificial virgin identification system:

There is only one poster 20-24 and one < the age of 20!

I bet Monahan would be way more effective if he wore the sort of gloves Gretzky did in the 80s that went up to his elbows.

Gaudreau too - their wrists and hands just get destroyed.

When Gaudreau came back that time, he wore extra protection - it didn’t hinder him to my eye. I don’t know why he went away from it. habit I guess.

Sorry guys, was just trying to be funny here. There isn't much going right for the team so since we can't celebrate much, we might as well laugh a bit.

Yet Monahan's gp are:

75
81
81
82
74 (missed the last 8 once the team was out of it)
78 ('18-19 - might've just missed some at the end?)
70 (COVID)

Basically he's never missed a game that mattered in his career here...

Right, but none of this speaks all that meaningfully to his health.

It's why slashes to the wrists should be taken much, much more seriously by the NHL. Don't know if that's why cause his wrist issues if this is still it, but still. It's detrimental to the league to have players careers hampered by those acts that's not a hockey play at all. Just results in players that should've scored more in the careers unable to, which is worse for the product.

Standing is the right word because he is never moving his feet

Laziest player on the team even when healthy. When has anyone felt that Monahan left it all out there on a single shift? Has he ever stripped someone from behind?

I don’t think it’s commitment to stand in the slot all game hoping for the other players to find your stick so you can finish, I think that’s being a pigeon

There is no way Monahan’s wrists are better now after seven years of this treatment.

Armour up, kid.

Monahan has been one of the worst defensive players in the entire league going back three seasons before this.

Has he been injured for four straight seasons? Or is our a top center and alternate captainjust a very one dimensional and flawed player? It’s a tough thing to admit but it’s true
