Aside from the most stacked teams, a lot of stars in the league have a utility player on their line...

A utility player is usually a Ryan type who can contribute in multiple lines. Ritchie has little utility

Not a lot of people know this, so I’ll let you in on a little secret.
There is actually a middle ground between ‘fringe AHLer’ and ‘another star’

I meant the Flyers.
Though really if it reverts back to CAR and CBJ instead of BOS and BUF it will still be really tough until WAS and PIT die, especially without a wildcard anymore.
PHI should be chasing long term solutions at RD.

Sure, but they’ve also been crap with Lindholm, Backlund, Leivo, Bennett, and Simon.
They’ve only been good with Lindholm (since Ferland)

No. I’m over it. If you think Barkov or MacKinnon or Eichel are #1Cs, and are possibly available, and you have the assets to get a deal done, you get it done.
We can find another Valimaki. We can find another Lindholm. We can find another Tkachuk, Zary, Pelletier.
We cannot for the life of us find a #1C, going on nearly 30 years now.

Lot of truth here.
It’s like trying to grill up the perfect steak with the wrong cut of meat. You can dress it up as much as you’d like, season it perfectl, and add the right sides to it, but ultimately, it still ends disappointing you any way you slice it.
Just get the right cut of meat, even if it costs a little more because if the foundation is right, eventually it’ll all work out in the end. Just look at the Oilers as an example, screwed up for years, could’ve had a Michelin star winning meal years ago, but they frittered away all their tasty sides. But as long as the foundation is right, eventually the sides can just be mediocre and you’ll still end up with a great meal.

Your thesis is that with a good cut of meat, a meal is destined to be great.
But your example is the Oilers? A team that has the best cut of meat the world has seen for over a decade, but is still garbage anyways, and has won absolutely nothing.

I advocated hard on here last year to trade Johnny to Philly for a package that included Farabee. Look at Farabee now, we couldn't even get him straight up for Johnny.

IDK, because of his age you are probably right...he has one more point than Gaudreau playing with far better players
You advocating for something doesn't mean it was actually possible ever

LOL, not saying it was actually possible or anything-it's not like scouts or mgmt are searching CalgaryPuck for possible trade scenarios....

The point is that with these re-tooling deals you want to trade for a younger player before he pops, because after he pops the other team is unlikely to let him go. But fans freak out when people propose those kinds of trades (I pitched a Gaudreau to the Flyers deal in the the offseason with Farabee as the main piece coming back too and it was ridiculed).
If the Flames do trade Gaudreau for a younger player or prospect, much of the fanbase will hate the deal and say Treliving got robbed.

If the Oilers didn’t have their two MVP centres, they’d be picking first overall again.
Because they have two MVP centres, they’re a threat if they get goaltending and some bounces. The rest of the team doesn’t have to be spectacular, it just has to not #### up.

It's because they can't figure out how to make a good salad for the life of them and they keep burning the potatoes, and trying to pass off uncooked beans as the side. If they ever figured out how to make all the sides to go with the steak we'd all be in trouble.

Correct, but what’s the point of threads designed to congratulate oneself?

Well first nobody created the thread to congratulate themselves. Second, what is wrong with saying you called something right? What is the point of ridiculing someone for that? This place is toxic enough as it is.

Just put Lindholm back on line 1. We dont have the depth to score with these guys separated. Boost their value keep looking for trades. Flames are in a crap situation. Johnny may not want to re-sign and Chucky may walk straight to UFA or 9 mill. Monahan I dont even know I feel like injuries have made him a bit averse. Gio is regressing hard without Brodie. This team needs to be flipped over like yesterday. They need to know NOW what the plans are for these guys before the team is over a barrel and we get Iggy'ed. I hope Tre is working those phones.
