Default Exec Agrees with Gaudreau Trade Proposal

Not quite sure if this warrants its own thread, or if it has been beat to death already in one the trade/blow it up threads. Mods please delete/move at will.

The Athletic ran a few fan trade proposals from twitter by a bunch of NHL execs.

https://theathletic.com/2464702/2021...ba-and-others/

In a shocking twist, one the trade proposals got a thumbs up. It involves Gaudreau. The Exec is not identified:
Quote:

Quote:
18. Calgary sends Johnny Gaudreau and a second-round pick to the Flyers for Travis Konecny and a fifth-round pick. — @CashinIanExec:

“Great one. That’s a great one. I think you have a deal. The reason is, there’s tons of room for Johnny in Philadelphia. Konecny fits into what Calgary is doing. The question to me is: Is Philly comfortable trading for Gaudreau when they have a great shot at him in free agency (in 2022)? Philly being just outside the playoffs today, this might help them get in the playoffs. The beauty is you get Johnny now and you can sign him. If they’re on the outside looking in, this is the offensive shot in the arm.”
When I think of 99 pt Gaudreau, that seems light. When I think of this season's Gaudreau, kind of still seems light.

Never mind the Exec. If this is the type of return we can get for Gaudreau, should we bother moving him?

The Exec here is probably Chuck Fletcher.

I would move John for Konecny. I think Philly should be sending the higher draft pick.

I would trade anyone for anything. Fire up the fax machines and let’s ship out some bodies.

Picks seem reversed but could see the argument with contract status

I would be in for the trade but not sending a 2nd back. They could have one of our thirds.

Konecny makes more sense if the Flames are taking a run with Sutter in for the next 3 years which I am 100% sure is their plan.

Another deal I proposed in the trade rumor thread.

To Flyers: Gaudreau and Monahan
To Flames: Konecny, Patrick, JVR

I think Gaudreau and Monahan would shine playing for AV. Flames get Konecny as a key piece and new top line forward. Patrick is the wildcard as he has some intriguing upside and worth the risk. JVR is a cap dump but would still serve a purpose on a flames team lacking forward depth.

Tkachuk-Lindholm-Konecny
JVR-Patrick-Dube
Lucic-Backlund-Mangiapane

The way I see it, Johnny = higher ceiling/lower floor and TK = lower ceilling/higher floor but a core shakeup is needed so I would do the trade. I don't think Calgary should have to offer a better draft pick but as long as its not a first would probably still pull the trigger.

Calgary to send the better player and the better pick?

That’s nuts.

Cap hit and control of player's rights matter in trades now. That has to be taken into consideration. Yes, Gaudreau is the better player, but he becomes a UFA in a season while Konecny is cost controlled for another four seasons at a lesser salary. You have to pay for that contract.

I would do Johnny for Konecny straight up, I wouldn't wanna risk paying more with draft pick swap. Johnny is obviously the more talented of the two, but Konecny has more bite to his game that is well suited to Sutter hockey. Plus a right-hand shooter is ALWAYS a need here.

I think that Konecny would definitely be a Sutter player and could give the Flames a very strong top line by joining Tkachuk and Lindholm. Not a fan of the lack of depth after that though.

I also think Gaudreau would be fantastic in a Vigneault player as well and would become the Flyers best offensive forward.

Gaudreau has put up better offensive numbers than Konecny, but he’s much worse without the puck. And he’s three years older. Going forward, I doubt the gap in production between the two will be huge, and Konecny will continue to be the more rounded player.

The Flyers already have Giroux, JVR, and Farabee at LW, while their next best RW after Konecny is 31 year old, declining Voracek.

As a casual fan of the Flyers, it’s not that obvious to me that swapping Gaudreau for Konecny makes the Flyers a better team. If the deal is done at all, it will only be because the Flyers are as impatient and desperate as the Flames.

He's a part of the rottenness of this team. This stems back a few years now. We need a refresher. I say move him and others

Whatever you do, don't move Johnny, unless you're going to move Sean too. Johnny is going to go somewhere and work out, with other skilled, creative, speedy players he'll improve and do fine. What's Sean going to accomplish when he can't even get it done with someone like Johnny. Nothing.

You can’t acquire a guy with chronic migraines and put him in Calgary.

Won’t work.

Would kill for JVR though.

Monahan scored 22 goals as a rookie with precious little being set up for him to score goals. His best line mate was Baertschi.

I am okay swapping Patrick with Frost who also has a ton of question marks but enticing upside. That would leave the Flames with an open protection spot as Frost is exempt.
