Markstrom gave the team a chance tonight...they scored 1 goal
Start scoring 3 goals a game and the Flames will win the vast majority...need an upgrade at forward though

But maybe you did its possible. My recollection is that they wanted that crossed off the reasons that the team was poor, moving forward.
And now we have a huge amount of apologists for the GM who placed all these players.
|
But what about stability in the GM position and the fact that after he tried to trade the 2019 first round pick Brad did not trade the 2020 first round pick so he is learning. Have to factor that in when thinking of getting rid of the GM who after 7 years gave us this team.

They've changed the coach, and we still have problems with consistency even though the effort is better. But crap like the end shows that there's a lack of leadership in the room and accountability among the players.
Something that's really going to have to be addressed going forward. Maybe we've got the wrong guys wearing letters. I will say that Lucic is working his butt off this year, give him one of the A's.
At least he's earned that.

One thing I’ll say is the timing of the first goal was brutal:
Flames had an okay start, were pressuring Ottawa, and were carrying the play.
Then boom Ottawas first real chance ends up in the back of the net. Those are killer for a team clearly battling some confidence in their offensive game and trying to figure themselves out after a coaching change.
Flames goalies have an .876 save percentage against the Sens and that’s been a big issue with their struggles in beating the senators.

Sam Bennett didn’t turn out well and the Oilers end up with a future Hart Trophy winner with the one draft pick prior. That’s a double whammy because now they’re off to the races with maybe the greatest 1-2 punch up the middle in the NHL while the Flames are wherever the hell they are, somewhere in the middle like they always are.

Yup.
We were supposed to suck that year and be the team that was in the lottery. Instead we had a good season that really muddied the eyes of the GM and ownership and what should have been a long rebuild was over within 2-3 seasons.
Oilers suck when they should have been better, get McDavid.
Flames move the picks for Hamilton and make other win now moves in the next two off seasons because they think they are further ahead in the rebuild than they were.
Fooled by early success.

Technically he did trade the 2020 pick, twice, and spent it on another undersized forward plus a couple more mystery boxes.
Edit: maybe not undersized if he is 6', but what I've seen of Zarys play is pretty meh

On the bright side...rather than draft Chabot, Barzal, or Kyle Connor...they traded for Griffen Reinhart to make sure they wouldn't get too good.

I wouldn't care if we lost all the time as long as it was River hockey 6-4 5-4 7-6 4-3 losing hockey.
But this inability to score goals dump and chase ring around the boards garbage.
This is hands down the worse feeling as a fan because there's no hope.

No need to trash Zary here...he was a good pick where he was picked.

I can understand that we need 2 lines to play against all these Canadian Teams which has 2 strong lines. But I think we need think about to make playoffs so need back to proven lines.
13-23-28
19-11-88
17-10-Phillips
93-29-27
And Gio needs play less.
55-8
6-4
5-Killington
I think we need look future true C. Trade anyone to get that players.
Star Winger is easy to find than 1st line C.
Keep may be Valimaki, Anderson and Wolf and Markstrom?
Anyone one else can be traded for good return.
And why the players looks unhappy like Johnny Monahan Bennett. May be they know that their names were included some of the trades that GM tried to make?

I can’t believe Treliving can look at teams like Colorado and Vegas with top players that put up multi point nights almost every single game with their eyes closed and then look at our Walmart superstars who can’t even enter or maintain possession in the oppositions zone and expect even a sniff of a contender. Love Tanny and Marky, but what drugs are you smoking to believe you need to add to this roster when it’s been so obvious for so long you need to rebuild it. Super frustrating GM at the helm and I’ll be happy when he’s gone.

Why would the players look happy? They are in 6th place

This team struggles to score goals under the Sutter style of play. Just north/south hockey and no creativity.

To be fair we did hear rumours of him trying to trade Gaudreau all summer.
Maybe this year we see it

Not sure we can blame that on Sutter, team hasn't been able to score in over a year. And especially not creatively

Gaudreau can't do his button hook when he skates into the red zone. Everything is dump and chase and force turnovers. Forwards seem lost and unsure. Structured hockey without any creativity.
