That about sums it up.
Some pieces worth keeping. Just get on with dealing with the rest.
DS must be wondering right now just what he signed up for?
He has no interest in coaching a rebuild squad. It is Cup or nothing for him in his sunseting coaching years.

No way Sutter gives up he hates losing. Pretty sure he will be involved in looking for the right type of players moving forward.

I think that Sutter knew well what he was getting into, he's too smart of a guy not to, and that's probably why he wanted the three year deal.
I think at this point, the chances of making the playoffs in this format are gone, we're not going to run the table or play at a .750 pace for the rest of the year. Management knows it, the coaches know it, the players know it.
The rest of the year is really about taking a hard look at the core of this team and deciding who stays, who goes, who's part of the solution and who's part of the problem.
Frankly with the way Johnny, Sean and Matthew are looking, they have one foot out of town already.
I'd like to see them trying to make a deal to send Gio to a contender, he's earned that much.
Color me surprised, I liked the off season moves this year, I thought they solved a lot of problems. But man, the good captain is a moron.

I would argue that was a childish move by Lindholm at the pinnacle of our success. Much like the embarrassing moment tonite at the end with Gustafsson's puck.
Perhaps foreshadowed what is really wrong with this team under the facade.
Real winners play with class and respect. Head down, focused on task at hand, relentless in effort with team goal in mind.
For me it boils down to a core group which lacks maturity, mental toughness, or relentless work ethic.

The original post was saying Gaudreau = Kessel, a 60 point player who doesn't come through "in the clutch". I was merely indicating that isn't fair to Kessel who helped his team to back to back Stanley Cups, and absolutely came through in the clutch for his team. Gaudreau should be so lucky to achieve those lofty standards.
Anyways not trying to derail, just think Kessel doesn't get enough credit for a really really good career.

The same thing that happens after every All Star Game Pinky, the game changes, checking gets tighter, rush scoring generally goes away, thus the Flames #1 scoring line struggles and the rest of the team can’t score enough to make up the difference. It’s probably also the biggest reason why the Flames have been so lousy in their last several playoff series.

Yes and what I’m trying to say is that Johnny Gaudreau is better then Phil Kessel and would also be a 2 time Stanley Cup champ if the Penguins had drafted him in 2011. If Gaudreau had a Crosby or a Malkin, I think that would unleash his true potential.

This franchise has just refused to rebuild and the same wheel is in motion right now.
I sincerely hope we play badly enough the rest of the way to make it crystal clear to management, even if it comes at the detriment of trade value of our expiring assets.
It’s a bleak outlook but I think it’s a quicker path to a future this flames fan can get behind.
Rebuild it. Give the fan base credit we’ll see it through. It’s time.

Oh god, fans were trash talking him all game so he gave it back a little...has nothing to do with over 100 games of results over the last two years.
Ring kissing Marchand won the cup

14-15 was literally the worst thing to happen to this franchise.

OK man. I wasn't saying Gaudreau is a bad player. Is that ok?

If you'd ask this last year I would have ripped your head off, this year, I have no explanation or justification. the kid has fallen completely off of the map.

I loved that season. It was a lot of fun. But in hindsight it’s probably true. Treliving essentially ended the rebuild by trading his 3 highest draft picks for Dougie Hamilton and then a couple years later does the same thing with Hamonic trade.
Too many picks and assets traded off and now this team has too many holes to fill with no time or cap space to fill it. Sam Bennett didn’t turn out well and the Oilers end up with a future Hart Trophy winner with the one draft pick prior. That’s a double whammy because now they’re off to the races with maybe the greatest 1-2 punch up the middle in the NHL while the Flames are wherever the hell they are, somewhere in the middle like they always are.

Flames suck.
Sens had better chances despite the shot clock.
Markstrom is hitting overrated territory for me.
What's the point in cheering for wins at this stage?? Team needs to start over.

The team just signed a premier UFA goalie to a massive long term contract. I’d be blown away if a rebuild happened in earnest. You’re getting a retool at best if you’re lucky. Learn to embrace the mediocrity, it’s a tradition like no other.

Learn? Flames fans are elite at cheering for a mediocre franchise, year in and year out.
Markstrom was a game breaker for half a dozen games and has been just ok for the rest in my opinion.
Flames crutch for two years in a row is a offensive catalyst to generate points.
But instead they do nothing at forward and get markstrom. Classic treliving.
