Team would probably be better off without them since it seems all more than likely that they won't be a part of the team performing better in the long run. They aren't the key pieces a competitive team needs.

I would bet a fair bit Calgary had more time in the offensive zone than Ottawa.

Yeah the dominant shift was great, but I don't think they generated a real scoring chance.

Much like that 2 minute shift vs Edmonton last week.

Just an observation, but the Flames rarely move the puck more than 10 feet from the boards. The Senators are continually trying to get the puck to the middle of the ice where the high danger opportunities are. When a team is schooled to ring it around the boards as their primary offensive strategy the likelihood of success is extremely low because they so easy to defend against. This is a team that plays along the boards and looks for shots from the point, trying to beat a goaltender with 60+ shot. Want to generate offense? Get your ass off the boards and out in the middle of the ice.

They just showed it - there were actually a couple cross crease passes that looked very good that I forgot about.

Ottawa had 8 scoring chances compared to Calgary's 3 and 3 high danger chances compared to Calgary's 2.

xGF% was 65.61% in Ottawa's favor.

Yeah this has been a problem with the team for a long time.

Perimeter play and just flinging it at the net just isn’t productive. The opposition wants to keep you on the perimeter, it takes hard work and skill to penetrate the middle of the ice.
