I totally agree but they should still be able to produce just between themselves.

Used to be that you could put anyone beside them and it seemed to not matter.

Anyone named Hudler or Lindholm and, to some degree Ferland.

I don't see why Flames coaches keep putting zero-skill plugs with Johnny and Monny when their best four seasons came with Lindholm, Huddler and Ferland on their line.
There is no merit to having a checker/grinder on that line.
Skill. That's what's needed. This couldn't be more clear after watching the past 7 seasons. The RW doesn't have to be elite, they just have to be decent (like Ferland).
Put a bottom 6 forward on the line, and the whole team suffers. Alex Chiasson was a big RW, but the puck died on his stick every time he got the puck. Huddler was a small left-handed winger, but led the line in production, especially at even strength.
I think Dube or Mangiapane should get extended looks there. I don't think the 2nd or 3rd lines would suffer as much as people think.
Or try Phillips. Albeit throwing him on that line might be a bit of shock, and the line would be tiny.
Or acquire someone. But this might not be the right time to spend picks.

I’d call up Phillips, put him with Lucic and Backlund, and then throw Mangiapane to the top line.

They are hoping that Monahan, Gaudreau, Lindholm, and Tkachuk are effective and get going I guess. Putting Lindholm back on the top line RW just gets them back to last year and we don't really have anyone we can afford to trade for a top 6 RW. I think they give this forward core a last kick at the can.
I wish they would put Lindholm and Gaudreau together but Tkachuk and Monahan would get feasted on. Maybe knock Monahan down to center Lucic and Backlund and Tkachuk together but that also sounds bad.

Plenty of high end players with that passenger guy plugged in on their lines that manage to produce just fine.
No more excuses for Johnny and Sean.
Their winger is not holding them back from producing like top 6 players.

Any time they don’t have a total scrub on the right side, they’re reasonably effective.

Yes and no. They’d be producing more if Mike Hoffman was taking their passes instead of Brett Ritchie.
Both of them think the game at a really high level and have great hands in close. They both have flaws, and it makes no sense to continually stick them with AHL talent and expect them to keep up.

Somebody send the Flames an order from McD's and get the turnovers out of their system before they hit the ice.

I would try Ryan with Gaudreau and Monahan. And I would put Ryan at center.
I think that's your best bet without moving Lindholm back to their wing, if they can't tow Ritchie.

And I don't mind it for this game. The Flames should have more success on the forecheck against Ottawa's defence. Ritchie could be an asset in that regard.
I'm trying to be more optimistic.

What I don't get about this team is why they refuse to play their best centre on their top line. I get that Johnny and Mony have been linemates for years, but the magic has clearly worn off and they don't have the chemistry they once had. It's time to put Johnny together with Lindy and either move Mony to the wing or have him play on the 2nd line.

Also agreed, they have to sweep them. It doesn't matter if its a nail biter or a blowout, they simply have to take care of business as the "better" team that is seeking a playoff spot.
I might not say the same if they were 5-0 or 4-1 so far because you can't expect to take every point over a whole series. But they're 2-3 against this team.
You have to make up for the points you should've already bagged against this club.
Some apathy was setting in after the Oilers loss, more set in after Saturday. They can bring more and they showed that in their first three games. I've really had enough of the burnout excuse or scheduling. The Oilers and Canucks managed to string a number of good games together.
So can ####ing we.

There are certain pre established traditions with this roster such as Gaudreau and Monahan being a pair that has endured through different coaches and the logic evades me.
That pair hasn't been effective outside the PP since January 2019. And two ineffective playoffs in that time. The "they're good together" reasoning no longer holds merit.
Hoping for some outside the box shuffling from Darryl at some point if both these guys are on the team past this season.
