I guess we all interpret discussion differently but if you’re going to make an accusation like that against so many people, you should back it up.

Yeah, I was actually being generous. It wasn't a great brush to stroke the whole board of "men" with when that hasn't been the case at all.

On the Whedon/CC stuff, a lot of former Buffy Cast members are coming out now.

Michelle Tractenberg came out with a statement and Sarah Michelle Gellar posted a pretty ominous We know what he did behind the scenes.

Jesus suppossedly the cast had a rule that he wasn't allowed to be in a room alone with Michelle Trachtenberg. Also just saw posts from Clare Kramer (Glory) and James C Leary.
Whedon's career is over, and it sounds like its a good thing.

I don't understand the motivations for anyone to act like that.

I wouldn't be so sure, James Gunn has been rehired by Disney.

I was a big fan of Whedon, especially with Buffy and Angel. I liked his work in avengers. He portrayed himself as woke when it came to empowering woman, and his social statements. But like a lot of woke people it turned out to be more about public image and about as fake as a $3.00 bill.

If I remember correctly, Gunn was removed due to tweets many years ago that were terrible jokes.... Nothing to do with being a mean andterrible person that treated co-workers inhumanely.

What does Gunn being rehired have anything to do with Whedon? The accusations aren’t remotely similar.
Just because the boilerplate PR statement from Disney is the same is not an indication of anything.

Disney fired Gunn and may do the same to Whedon, and may end up hiring Whedon again. That is the similarity. But I expect you to get all bent out of shape telling me how what the two did are completely different even though me and everyone else is perfectly aware of that. lol.

To be fair you trot in here with things that have nothing to do with anything, so it’s hard to know what you’re perfectly aware of.
“James Gunn!” (Not remotely similar)
“People think being a jerk should be criminal??” (A response to no one, apparently, since it was never remotely suggested)
So, you’ll probably have to just forgive people for point out obvious things.

FWIW, I have a good friend who worked quite a bit with James Gunn on Slither (which is an awesome movie BTW). He said he was absolutely great to work with. Not a single negative thing to say.
Sounds like Whedon's issues are well known in the industry. I will say that my friend who works in the Hollywood scene mentions lots of instances where directors/producers/executives are #######s, and that he had heard lots about Whedon being a dick. I think Hollywood in general needs to work on toxic workplace culture in general, not specific to Whedon.

I think it's very telling that in Gunn's case, actors who had worked with him very vocally demanded he should be re-hired. That's pretty unusual.

So...it sounds like Whedon is an ass.
But being an Ass is not a crime. It shouldnt be tolerated within a normal workplace setting, but film is far from a 'normal workplace.'
There should definitely be consequences, and there needs to be a cultural shift.
It reminds me of Hazing. People get treated like crap when they're low on the priority list and then when they're on top they do the same to others. Its a self-perpetuating cycle that needs to be broken.

The problem is being an ass in the film industry comes hand in hand with a workplace that also accepted being a sexual predator was ok as well, you can't have one without the other.
Its an industry that has used the desperate desire of lowly aspiring actors to create an atmosphere where those with power could do what ever they wanted to them from cruelty to rape

I'm surprised that the Arnie Hammer rape investigation didn't pop up here.

Wonder what is going to come of Woody Allen after that doc. I had no idea about the Dylan Farrow incident, and maybe that was just because he made the creepy, yet not illegal, relationship with Soon-Yi Previn the focus in the media at the time. I found it very bizarre that Mia Farrow thought his excuse of not being around children very much as a rational reason for why he was being inappropriate with Dylan.
