Ward was absolutely a huge part of the problem, but that does not mean issues with the roster are not significant.

Also, the team is 4-2 under Sutter. That’s pretty fantastic.
Accounting for the new coach bump i’d say that is about to be expected. There’s been a huge improvement in effort though no doubt.

Full on suicide booth in here.

High dangers chances were 7-4. Flames didn't get dominated, we just lost to a good hockey team. Playing their 3rd game in 4 nights against a team desperate to start winning again.

There is definitely an adjustment period for forwards in finding their way to score under Sutter, but I have faith at least some of them will get better.

I also feel pretty good that we will beat Ottawa both games.

I don’t think it’s suicide booth-y here

Was Rasmus’s shot into Campbell’s maple leaf logo a high danger chance?
Mang’s slap shot from the hash marks that missed the net entirely?

The team was not dangerous, people who watched the game clearly saw that and aren’t impressed

Were either Leaf goals high danger chances?

It was a disappointing loss but at least we got the split.

Flames are my team and I'll keep on watching but it's hard when you're trying to be positive and optimistic and see a game like this, team just looked tired to me.

I just don't think it's there as much as I like a lot of the current players.
They have to decide what they want to do as an organization and going forward especially with a new building in a couple years, need to have at least a good competitive team.

I'll keep cheering for the team in the meantime and hopefully we can take out some frustrations against Ottawa the next couple games.

Go Flames!

Well, Montreal widened the gap by 2 and Vancouver got another point tonight. And one or both of Wpg and Edm will also put more distance between them and the Flames

So not a terribly good night.

Don’t know, don’t care. One was a high danger (in reality, not sure by the stat definition) perfectly placed shot. The other was a fluke

Doesn’t matter when the Flames have no offence whatsoever

I thought it was a pretty easy night for him. There was way too many shots right at his chest. The Tkachuk save was really the only hard save I can remember he had to make.

Depends on where you set your bar.

Our forwards were completely snuffed out by a Leafs team that’s ok but far from great compared to other good teams in the league.

We generated nothing five on five and our power play is abysmal.

Shake it off, bounce back on Monday.

Teams play 3 games in 4 nights all the time. Get used to it or miss the playoffs.

Haha. They already forgot the drill Sutter had them doing with the one touch passes

4-2 under Darryl but the eye test isn't looking great for me.

Honestly though, if this is it for this team, just start over at this point. Don't re-tool. Don't worry about who to keep. I think we have some good players here, but it seems obvious now that this group won't compete for a Cup. And that's not really me being down on the players, it's me being down on the GM.

Build through the draft. Don't sign UFAs to monster contracts you will be forced to buy out.

Do it right this time.

I don't know. I acknowledge that I'm a pessimist (occupational hazard), but I think I'm also a bit of a dreamer who still believes in fairy tales (like Sutter swoops in, turns season around, and finishes his unfinished business in epic fashion).

But really, shouldn't this fan base be crowding into a suicide booth at this point? We're in year seven of a rebuild (following several other totally unsuccessful multi-year rebuilds), and it looks like it has all been for naught. And that means all we have to look forward to is another painful rebuild which, based on the last thirty years of experience, is hardly an encouraging prospect.

But both teams have the same schedule in the playoffs.

3 games in a row where they weren’t dangerous. And 6 games into Sutter we’ve seen very little from our core forward group.

The didn’t hire Sutter to burn it to the ground. You don’t plan to rebuild like this with a HOF coach who will hand it over in 3 years to a way less accomplished coach.

They will retool but there won’t be any bottoming out Oiler style.

I am fine with that. I think there are good pieces, but we absolutely do not have a true first line. Maybe Tre can pull a miracle and move JG for a player that will be much better under pressure. He needs to do that now though, JG value is way past peak and trending down.

I don't see why Darryl couldn't be a good coach to teach a young team good habits and learn while they are capable.

But I agree with you. I just think the longer you wait you do a full rebuild here, the longer it will be until this team actually competes for a Cup. I don't see how you can salvage this, short of a couple current prospects turning into elite players.

Rittich for Andersen trade?

I like Rittich a lot more than Andersen at this point.
