As usual Bill Maher manages to make good points and at the same time be wrong on so many levels. He talks about how amazing China is at building infrastructure, sure but they do it while not giving a single #### about environmental concerns. If the U.S. did even one project using the same lack of regulation Maher would be stamping his feet like a crazy person.
Also notice how he glosses over China's atrocious human rights record.
As the West's lead in economic superiority, technological and scientific superiority, and even superiority of functioning governance become more and more questionable, there's a notably increasing focus put on claims of Western moral superiority or Chinese moral degeneracy.
Moral superiority doesn't have much influence on the course of history though. It wasn't the moral superiority of the West that led to global hegemony of the British or American empires, and it's not what the West needs to keep a hold of that hegemonic position.

I don’t know about moral superiority. And I haven’t seen China’s current regime denounced as ‘morally degenerate’.
However, the West’s liberalism played a big part in its global ascendancy. And that liberalism was adopted very successfully by places like Japan, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. It’s dismaying to see how much the people of Hong Kong have lost, and how much those of Taiwan are likely to lose, falling back under the dominion of the Chinese regime.

During Kavanaugh’s 2018 confirmation hearing, the FBI opened an investigation into credible allegations of sexual misconduct against the judge as part of its background check into him, including Christine Blasey Ford’s allegation Kavanaugh had sexually assaulted her at a party in 1982 and accusations that he exposed himself to women in college (he has denied all the allegations).
The investigation has been heavily criticized by Democrats as insufficient, and the New York Times reported in 2019 the FBI had not contacted a number of witnesses with corroborating evidence, or looked into another claim referred to the bureau of a separate instance of Kavanaugh exposing himself in college.
Whitehouse wrote to Garland the FBI did not assign anyone to gather evidence in the case—which he said was “unique behavior”—noting, “There was no point of entry by which members of the public or Congress could provide information to the FBI.”
When the FBI did establish a tip line for evidence, Whitehouse said the bureau did not pursue the information that came through it, describing it as a “garbage chute, with everything that came down the chute consigned without review to the figurative dumpster.”
The senator called for congressional oversight over the investigation with Garland’s assistance, noting FBI Director Christopher Wray has “refused to answer” questions from lawmakers about whether the bureau was following proper procedures.
Attorneys general from 21 states on Wednesday sued to to overturn President Joe Biden‘s cancellation of the contentious Keystone XL oil pipeline from Canada.
Led by Ken Paxton of Texas and Austin Knudsen of Montana, the states said Biden had overstepped his authority when he revoked the permit for the Keystone pipeline on his first day in office.

Because the line would run through multiple U.S. states, Congress should have the final say over whether it’s built, according to the lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in Texas.
Some moderate Democratic lawmakers also have urged Biden to reverse his decision, including Sens. Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Jon Tester of Montana.

I'm trying to understand why this policy is necessary. It's even effected staffers who used weed in states where it was legal. It makes no sense and it's really disappointing. This is so regressive.
My understanding is this isn’t everyone. They did relax the standards and kept employees that had some history, it was all of five people and they said there were extenuating circumstances. Yeah yeah the jazz cabbage is fine but it’s still illegal at a federal level. This wasn’t a pure bait and switch where they fired everyone who had admitted to some past use.
How wonderful it is that this is literally the outrageous news in American politics right now.
O/U on if Joe is brave enough to wear a tan suit at some point?

He tripped a few times going up stairs to Air Force 1 today. He’s falling apart and his dementia riddled brain can’t communicate with his legs anymore. Run the headline boys!
America is helpless to do anything to fix those problems. The corporations will threaten to manipulate commodity prices and hence, effectively, have the country held hostage.

If I were a democratic political advisor, I would suggest Biden wear a tan suit for like 2 hours every single day from Sept 2nd 2024 to Nov 3rd 2024. let them fight their imagined battles.
