Marian Gaborik was neither physical, nor a full two-way player.
That's a fair outlier. But looking at those LA teams as a whole, they had an IDENTITY. I struggle to see us being able to play that way as a whole. Would love to see it, so I will happily be wrong here.

Gaborik was also the 5th or 6th most important player in that team. He was more of a supplementary player than one of the guys carrying the mail. Put him on a line centred by Kopitar and surround him with guys like Brown, Richards, etc. and his defensive weakness / laziness was mitigated.
Is Gaudreau really that much weaker physically than Marner? I doubt Sutter is asking him to put guys through the boards. He’d be happy if Gaudreau and Monahan forechecked and backchecked with something approaching the intensity they demonstrate when they have the puck on their sticks. It’s about skating hard without the puck, picking up your man on the backcheck, and getting your stick in passing lanes. You don’t have to be big to do any of that stuff.

Yeah that's been an issue for sure. If they see themselves as a #1 line those two need to play like it 5vs5 way more. I don't think too many teams around the league fear that line at all. If anything, with how poor they are in their own end I'm guessing there a lot of teams that love to see them out there taking a faceoff in their own end.
They've actually improved in their own zone quite a bit ... the issue is it took all their five on five offence away.
Monahan has an expected goals against in 60 minutes of five on five hockey of 2.04, that's 8th best on the team for forwards, and a huge move for him compared to his previous seasons where he had ... 2.47, 2.36, 2.43, 2.54, 2.36 and 2.51
But is expected goals for is down to just 2.22 which is way off his 2.82 and 2.62 from 2017-18 and 2018-19
Their xGF% was never that great.
But from 2015-16 to 2018-19 (4 years) they scored 0.61 (average) more actual goals than expected. Star players outplay their expected stats, that stopped happening last year and hasn't recovered.
Big strides defensively, but the offence has completely dried up.

Sutter probably likes 2.04 v. 2.22. That’s part of his his close game winning strategy.

I don't think it's fair to ban someone for a comment made 2 or 3 years ago. (or whenever Scorpion joined), plus many of those who were mean and are still here, I think did apologize.
I think the simulations are much less accurate for this season, since every team in the division only ever plays every other team in the division. Wild swings from top-to-bottom are a lot more likely this year.
The simulations account for this. It plays out the actual remaining schedule many many times.

When has Gaudreau not been good at backtracking or skating hard without the puck - since he turned pro? Are you contesting that Gaudreau coasts?
I would argue that Gaudreau has done these things consistently throughout his career.
