Its the same mix of Pens, Caps, Rangers, Flyers and Bruins that cycle through all the coverage. They sprinkle in some midwest stuff with Hawks/Blues or maybe some California stuff with Sharks/Kings, but they continue to ignore Canadian teams; more so this year since you guys are playing on your own of course.

Yeah I work in the US... nobody knows who McDavid is or cares. It's not like he's a YouTube gamer or something.

If it wasn't who had Mcdavid I probably wouldn't care as much in hearing news about him. I can recognize he's a very talented player but it's that fact that the most undeserving franchise in the league got him out of a combo of luck and incompetence.
He could've brought some relevance to a struggling franchise or been on a team that was doing things the right way and be rewarded for doing as much. Nope... Went to the Oilers who found some semblance of success in one of the only players who was offensively skilled enough to overcome their ability to ruin high draft players. My solace lies in the fact that they allow him to be entitled enough to play minimal defense and somehow be okay with it so he won't truly be as good as so many others despite his abilities. Hopefully one day he sees the mismanagement in their organization and requests a move so he can bring value to a more deserving group.

His main reason was that people would mis-represent what he said.
He would go on the air and talk about for instance "perhaps the Flames would have interest in Max Domi - he seems to fit what they need" and then it would be reported out that Elliot Friedman reports that "The Flames are interested in Max Domi".

Erick Estrada said earlier in this post that McDavid is on a 1.76ppg pace, which is obviously very good. Does anyone know what his points/60 minutes pace is? How does it compare to other players in the league historically? Maybe McDavid's points-per-60 still amazing, I don't know.
But the additional ice time given to McDavid (and Draisaitl) that allows them to get those points, also takes time away from the rest of the forwards. Players usually need to get more than the bare minimum of ice time to get their offense going. How many fewer goals are they getting as a result?

we really have to stop complaining about how much love McDavid gets i know its getting old, but what's also getting old is constantly reading about the media and how they cover certain players McDavid is the best player in the world he can almost beat our team by himself and honestly who are they going to fawn over on our team?

The Flames actually did a great job on him in last Monday's win, holding him to just one assist. It can be done and we'll do it again.

Must be nice to be removed enough in the BoA from Oiler fans that you can actually enjoy and appreciate McLotteryballs. Screw that guy, and all the loud-clucking fans who wear his jersey.
Wish I could FF 5 years when he's no longer an Oiler, then maybe I'll appreciate him.

I spent time in the 80's living in small town Alberta and was bullied for being a Flames fan. If the Flames beat the Oilers the night before I would never wear a Flames jersey to school the next day out of fear of getting beat up while Oilers fans would parade their jerseys in your face at every opportunity. I don't think younger fans today will ever be able to relate to just how bad Oilers fans were in those days. They were grade A #######s and it's the reason that their decade plus of futility has brought me as much happiness as any Flames success would bring me. The saddest part is that a lot of their fanbase is still almost as bad as it was in the 80's despite the fact that they have not earned the right to look down on anyone outside of maybe a Coyotes fan.
All of that said it's kind of hard to ignore that the guy is a really good hockey player and I do understand why the Canadian media fawns over him because he's scoring at a pretty prolific pace.

So he got pissy over that? Same thing could be misinterpreted on TV but he's got no problem going on TV?
What surprises me the most is that his bosses don't force him to do spots on their radio stations.

For me it's just pure Oilers stank.
I've always been a fan of Crosby despite the media obsessing over him for the better part of 10 years.

according to this, for player with over 200 games, he's #1 all time since the stat began.
https://www.quanthockey.com/nhl/reco...0-leaders.html
for one season, this year he's 2nd all time. only behind a Crosby season where he played only 22 games. (min 20 games played)
https://www.quanthockey.com/nhl/reco...l-players.html
the benchmark has to be the 2018-2019 season by Kucherov, since that was over an 82 game season. Personally, I would consider that #1
I see that there are several high up the charts this year, such as Mark Stone at #11 all time.

I think sports as a whole is much less tribalistic than it was 25-years ago. The internet and sports broadcasting have both contributed massively to the de-regionalisation of fandom. I know that for the entire time my kids have been in school, they and most of their peers do not care a lot about sports, and especially not local teams. I think in the end it is probably a good thing that none of them take it nearly as seriously as I do.

I don't know. He depends on sources for his info so if people are mis-reporting what he's saying - it can harm that.
Seems a valid thing to be pissy about.

Exactly.
I'm more concerned when our players fawn over the opposition. Remember captain Gio fawning over Mackinnon after he owned our team?
That still bothers me and I can only imagine what he'll say if McDavid does that to us in a playoff series.
I couldn't care less who Friedman fawns over.
Hopefully Sutter uses all of this to get an underdog mentality and hatred for their rivals into this team. This stuff needs to fuel the fire, it's actually good that its happening.

I'm fine with McDavid as long as he never wins a Cup in Edmonton. After another embarrassing playoff loss this season, I'm sure he'll finally demand a trade and I'll happily cheer for him when he inevitably ends up on a U.S. based team.
He'll never win a championship playing for the Oilers, and I'm sure he knows that.

I think it's hilarious. Some twitter folks got their undies all twisted in a bunch, and Friedge just doubled down to troll them harder. I hope he continues it.
Edit: Just to add, it was never meant to be edgy. It was just meant to be a little good humour. I'm glad he's got the dedication to stick to it.

I don’t have an issue with McDavid getting attention on a national platform. He deserves it and it’s to be expected.
What I do have an issue with, however, is when they fawn over him during Flames broadcasts. Friedman coming on Calgary radio and gushing over an Oiler is annoying. Kelly Hrudey acting like a giddy fanboy before the start of the game because he’s excited to watch McDavid is annoying.
When the broadcasts are Flames broadcasts it’s just a complete lack of awareness and respect for the audience. It could be intermission during a Flames/Canucks game and they will go off on how great he is.
I always wondered how Flyers fans could hate Crosby. Now I know.

I give it 3 years until he asks for a trade. I look forward to that day with great anticipation to taste the river of salty tears.

Jagr was trolling McDavid. I thought everyone could see that.
