Saw a video of him on Bardown yesterday, and he referenced exactly this. As he has done multiple times since publicly. Seems like he's totally in his own head reliving that moment constantly; super immature and dumb.

The only thing holding Tkachuk back is Tkachuk. The guy is a head case. The moment his game went south was the puck flip IMO. His ego was bruised and his GAF has been in negative numbers since. Now he is more concerned with trying to find the highlight reel with incredibly high-risk-no-reward plays. Sutter has to do some work here quickly or Treliving will have some work to do.

Treliving has a lot of work to do regardless and the question is if he should be the man to do that given he's the architect of this mess that got so bad the owners had to intervene and bring Darryl back.

There's decline and then there's a bad season. You need multiple bad seasons before you can say a guy is in decline. This is further complicated by the nature of this season and the fact that it's just going to mess with some players. Some guys will handle this better than others, and if things return to normal, they might too.

He needs to get back to playing his game. He has been really off since the Muzzin incident and the team meeting. Being the chirp, pest works for him and that is what he should be doing.
It may be that he doesn't fit with the culture of this team. I like him but am also fine if he gets traded. His skating is not great

Is the decline similar to Phaneuf? We traded Phaneuf in year 5. Tkachuk has been around close to the same.

When Sutter makes the comment about players on the Flames not being as mature as on the 2004 team, Tkachuk and his constant between-the-legs shot attempts is the first guy that comes to mind for me.
Also, when Sutter mentions Gio, Lucic, Backlund and Ryan as voices of leadership in the room, it's notable that the team's mostly highly paid player doesn't come to mind.
From the four games under Sutter so far, Monahan seems to have responded in his playing style. Johnny, although struggling a bit with adapting to the new style, also seems to be working at it. Tkachuk often looks like he just wants to do his thing.
He needs to improve a lot from how he's playing now if he's going to be worth anything close to the 9M needed to qualify him. If he doesn't, either Tre or whoever has replaced him by that time is going to be in a sticky situation.

He looked better last night being an agitator. I hope he’s just having an off year, but I would love for him to remain a Flame if we can retain. As of right now he’s not really playing well enough to be qualified at 9m...

I think of any player in the NHL Tkachuk is one that benefits from a crowd the most.

How anyone can think Tkachuk is a "head case" is beyond me.

This thread makes me sick.
Tkachuk is in a Giuseppe commercial, not DiGiorno. Frickin misinformation.

This.
The only headcases here are the people losing their collective minds in the GTs every game.

Sutter said in his opening press conference that it was Murray Edwards who called him.

Really? How easy it is to get him off his game, and the opposition uses this to their advantage, is the classic example of head case. Chirp him the right way, or take a run at him, and the guy will spend the night distracted and trying to get even instead of trying to score or prevent goals. The guy had a puck flipped at him and his season has gone to #### since. A single flip of a puck over a month ago and he has not yet recovered. Head case.

man, you don't know this.
There is, what, nearly four years of Tkachuk being the player you describe with regard to getting others off their game. But a rough 20 games or so, and it's now a 180 degree turn in direction? I'm not buying it.

Incorrect. It was almost always Tkachuk doing this to others and it almost always played in his favour prior to this season.

You're correlating an incident which likely has nothing to do with his play.
It's a big assumption to think his slump has anything to do with the Muzzin puck flip vs he's just not playing well.

Tkachuk living rent free... in his own head?
Seriously though, I think we're seeing some growing pains -- playing with Backlund and someone like Frolik for so many years, he always knew he had help defensively. He hasn't meshed as well with Lindholm and is probably putting a lot of pressure on himself (as evidenced by some of his quotes earlier in the year). With Darryl on board he's probably still getting comfortable with the direct nature of Darryl's style, playing fast, and being hard on pucks (which isn't really his strong suit IMO).
