Thanks for the Game Takes Bingo. I missed last night's game and this helps me understand what happened. For better or worse. The Flames sadly were the worse, but some solace can be had looking at your write-up, where the Flames maybe just had an off night.

It will be interesting how Markstrom does against Toronto.
Markstrom 2019-20 game log shows
8 games without a loss followed by 6 games without a win followed by 3 wins in a row followed shortly with another 6 games without a win
as the season goes on he has 5 game win streak, loses 3 in a row and finishes the short season with 4 games without a loss.
In games following a loss in regulation Markstrom was 8-9-0
This year he is 4-4 after a regulation loss
Does Sutter start Rittich in the first game of the Toronto back to back?

Good write up. Losing to the Oilers sucks no matter what, so it's hard to look past that for a "silver lining". I don't think the team played terrible, and Markstrom had an off night/Oilers had all the puck luck.
We've won 3 of 4, and won't win every game to finish off the season. Just move on to the next series in TO.

I've raised this before actually when Tanev was signed and the mock pairings were put up:

I have no doubt about their other abilities.
Plus maybe the aggregate of their strengths are perfect for a top pair but to me that is my immediate question about running those two as the top pair.

and it's not like I dislike either guy - in fact they are two guys whose games I really like. But given these numbers:

The Blueline
No change on the blueline as well with Mark Giordano continuing with Rasmus Andersson despite their struggles for most of the season. A pairing that hasn’t struggled; Noah Hanifin with Chris Tanev, and a third pairing that had both good and bad moments in the last Edmonton game, Oliver Kylington with Juuso Valimaki.
Giordano – Andersson
43% xGF in 348 minutes
Hanifin – Tanev
63% xGF in 462 minutes
Kylington – Valimaki
63% xGF in 38 minutes

Should there be an experiment with a reconfigured top 4 of:
Hanifin - Andersson
Gio - Tanev
Valimaki - Kylington
Can you get your top 4 in the 50% range instead top pair 60% second pair 40%?
For that matter: If you ideally want to have a heavy forecheck/cycle as your identity/how you play is it not a good idea to construct each line with minimum 2 guys who are strong in that game (not one guy strong in that game)
Tkachuk - Lindholm - Gaudreau
Bennett - Monahan - Dube
Mangiapane - Backlund - Leivo
Lucic - Ryan - Ritchie
I realize Darryl knows best and I fully trust him - it is one game and he is 3-1. But I'm thinking about his style and being able to get the max out of the roster (speed, on pucks fast, kill plays fast, capitalize on chances).
CGY needs a little more pace to their overall game.

Interesting game, I thought the Oilers were the better team for most of the game
Flames had an issue with the give away's which were the direct result of quite a few of the goals,
Flames are struggling to score, their shot attempts were poor

I like Rasmus alot. And I'm optimistic he will get better.
But there's also no denying that when it comes to playing with Gio, him at $4.5 million AAV this year is a massive drop off from Brodie at $4.6 last few years.
I do think the forwards are a bigger issue, but Sutter probably needs to rethink how his D is configured. With Kylington's wheels, could he play with Gio?

I wanted a Gio Kylington combo since last year. I think that they would complement each other really well, whereas Andersson is little too similar in playing style to Gio.
Leave Hanifin Tanev alone!

I'd like to see
55-8
6-4 (they looked so good their rookie season)
5-58
This gives you two second line D pairings which you can deploy depending whose having a good game
