I totally agree with this assessment. For Mange, it seems like his legs are constantly moving, so it probably takes a lot of energy for him to be in constant motion like that. Plus, with his lack of size, it's inevitable he's going to sometimes be bouncing off other bigger guys he's checking.

Glad to see Darryl is not going to let this powerplay fester. Oilers seem to be pretty prepared for the Flames entries into their zone and hopefully changing things up will give them some time to set up. The first unit barely got any zone entry last night.

Am I the only one that would rather mix PP1’s and PP2’s players a little? Having a top heavy PP1 worked in the past, but I’d like to explore some other player combos and seeing if they could function well.

I think the entire league is onto the flames PP1 zone entry. I much prefer when JG would hit a streaking Lindholm early in the neutral zone and allow him to carry it in. It hasn't worked well for a number of games now with JG trying to enter the zone...

My new alternate nickname for him is Rudy.

Fair, I just don't ever seem to remember St. Louis or Theo falling as much. Mangiapane is awesome, easily one of my faves right now... just thinking he needs some Crosby/St. Louis legs.

Added muscle won't help him with balance.

Well, we know Mangiapane uses a gym, so all he needs is the genetics piece to have a substantially differently shaped body

https://flareskateblade.com

Get him on a pair of these. Edit: Hahaha he already does use them according to the testimonials page. Guess he needs to step it up to the 6mm blade.

well the good news is that even if he falls down he still battles for the puck and also gets back up and keeps digging - saw a few times last night where he fell got back up and got the puck - love his tenacity

Did you just suggest that lower body strength doesn't help with balance? If this is true then my understanding of literally everything is right out the window.

Increased core strength and muscle most definitely improves balance.

This really pleases me to see. The team has played with great pace and tempo on 5 on 5 play, and getting goals as a result, which was terrible for them with Ward.

But the PP has quite matched the momentum of the 5 on 5 play, and still has that lower intensity play that yields no results since they let the PK get in position to contain.

The videos and tweet there suggests that Sutter is wanting the PP to play with more pace so they can actually generate good chances with the man advantage.

####. It's so refreshing since the Flames have a problem with their play, and a head coach that actually recognizes it, and tries to provide a solution quickly rather letting it continue.

Backlund also was talking about playing with pace, and by that he meant puck movement, not skating.

That drill with all of the one touch passes is exactly supporting building that habit.

I don’t think Mangiapane falls because he lacks balance. He falls because he’s hit, or because he’s trying something that extends his body, or both. Core and leg strength will help some, though he will never be bigger than a lot of D. Maybe also just some experience at which way to lean into defenders (Dube may be a bit better at this tactic).

Lots of players fall when they are hit. But Mangiapane falls unusually often with no one else in sight.
