It wasn't just a charge on Hanifin, earlier in the shift, McDavid took another leaping charge on another Flames, I think it was Tanev. It's ridiculous how much that loser gets away with. Both times, both feet were high up in the air, clear charging. How a guy that skates that fast, even needs to jump to throw a hit is beyond me. His momentum alone should be enough to make an impact.
I guess he and Draisatl are just frustrated because they don't have Lucic around to protect them. How ya liking the Real Deal?
Ask for a trade dummy, get out of that pathetic franchise and City. You have the power. Be better.

I cannot believe there wasnt a mention on the broadcast or one post mentioning Backlunds assist on the game winner.
Lucic fires a cross ice puck in the air from the boards to Backlund on the other boards, Backlund takes it one touch on his backhand, with a guy on him and no look backhands it off the boards from his side of center. The perfect bank pass right onto Mangiapaines stick all in one fluid motion.
I cannot find the goal online to post it but it really is a thing of beauty, has to be the best pass of the season. I dont know how many guys in the league could have made that play happen.

We molested McTwatwaffle? Umm....no ....didn't the sweat pants with dress shoe wearing grease faithful do that long before we came around.
Yes....Sutter must be a genius....to defeat the mighty coil ....
God there's some real gems of bitterness in there.
Lastly....to the poster and followers, likers, and contributing to the completely inappropriate racist comments last night....the oiler message board needs YOU....you tripe is welcome there and ONLY there.

Yeah, NHL.com doesn’t have a video of that goal for some reason. If you click on their game tracker you can watch highlights from the entire game though (including the GWG). Really slick play by Backlund.
Speaking of Backs, can someone explain his “interference” minor penalty? I might have missed something but he cross checked a guy with the puck and he went down. To me that wasn’t interference by definition, nor was it a penalty for cross-checking (as it was no worse than what you see when guys are battling along the boards)...

They showed the wrong play for the penalty. He interfered with Russell along the boards before that. The ref in the other corner raised his arm right after.
Lucic accidentally highsticked McDavid right before this but it was missed.

The replay SN showed was not penalty. His penalty was earlier in the corner. He took Russell out.

Hrudey was born and raised in Edmonton, but after his hockey career came to recognize that the city is an absolute dump, and wisely decided to settle in Calgary. I don't think that move ever prompted him to turn in his Oilers fan-club card, and in the years prior to being added to the Flames broadcast crew did make passing comments to his affinity for the Oilers from his youth. It came out a few times in broadcasts as well: most notably, it was in the first game of the 2006–07 season that Hrudey declared that he "love[d] this team!" And he is the one who made the infamous "+300-goals!" prediction. (Good one, Kelly.)
However, Hrudey is a consummate professional, and I think that the permanent move to the Flames broadcast likely prompted him to quell a lot of his earlier enthusiasm, which he has done so effectively as to convince everyone that he is actually an unabashed Flames homer. I do wonder if his allegiances may have invariably shifted though as a result of all the time he spends covering the Flames. Hopefully, yes.

Needs new skates, or edges, or equilibrium...
As much as EatBread falls down, the Coilers as a team seem to also not be able to stay on their skates, falling over anytime there was a breath anywhere close to them. One particular head first dive by McDinglepuss had me wondering if he forgot the water was frozen. Haven't seen a team dive so much since Vancouver of the 2012 era.

To be fair everyone was yardsale'ing last night. Dome ice is the worst. But agreed that eatbread does a lot of it

That pass by Lucic was actually deflected high into the air off Puljujarvi's stick, for what it's worth. Still a nice play.

Thanks!
Added bonus seeing McDavid face.
Backlund with 4 takeaways, 27 on the season now ties him for 4th in the league. Scheifele and Stone have 28. Leon Crysaitl leads the league with 29.
I also dont think Brett Ritchie is getting enough praise. By far the best fit weve seen with Monahan and Gaudreau this season. 28 hits in 8 games. His dump in forechecks are things of beauty. His timing for dumping the puck in and then absolutely punishing the guy who is trying to retrieve the puck is as good as I've ever seen. I think there is a lot more game to the guy than we know. He has a great motor for a huge guy. Relentless puck pursuit. I've been impressed.
Another thing I've totally noticed is the line changes. Guys not staying out for stupid long shifts and the hustle back to the bench to get off. Obviously keeping guys fresh and hungry. Sutter has obviously made his thoughts well known on changes and shift time. Makes a huge noticeable difference as the game goes on.

This pisses me off so much. There’s no excuse this year. No events, lots of time to get it right. And other Canadian cities are no better. I forget which rink - Vancouver maybe, the Flames kept passing behind the recipient because the puck just wasn’t sliding

I'd like to blame the 2013 flood but the ice in the dome seems to be getting worse year over year. There was a time when the ice at the Dome was regarded as one of the best in the league but those days are long gone.

Yeah, Lucic looks completely reborn this year.
I couldn’t stand him last year. Accepted that he was the necessary evil from the Neal signing ... but thought he was just a complete waste of a roster space.
This year? A complete 180 for me. He’s found the fountain of youth and is quickly becoming one of my favourite players night after night.

That one poster earlier mentioned that nice little bump pass from Backlund off the wall. Didn't notice it until that highlight AC shared but that's some nice sneaky playmaking from backs. Love to see it.

Regarding the interference call from backlund that was clear oilers benefit. They need a ref in the stands or in a video booth to help the on ice guys with a different angle. That play is a cross check on a guy skating through the neutral zone. How many times does that ever get called that way?
Man it’s nice to beat those coilers and that lottery team. Flames weren’t great but that fight really propelled them to play more aggressively than I have seen in a while. I know, coaching. Darryl is so refreshing to lead a team with championship aspirations. He has such respected insights that you can tell the league is on notice.
Eats bread lucic backlund line were gamers. Mangiapane punches above his weight class. Wicked cattle dog like effort. Lucic is reborn.
Monny looks to be better In His own zone and neutral zone. I will happily eat crow if he turns his game around and becomes more solid in his own zone and the neutral zone. Ritchie has really made a difference on that line. He’s a cop. He’s not that skilled but he’s a good cycle option offensively. Monny and Johnny need to play to his style. That’s what’s gonna get them playoff glory. But at least Jonny is making the right play at the blue lines.
Lindy dube and chucky. The first two are really gelling. Chucki is biding his time I suppose. Lindy being addressed by sutter on the postgame is good. Sutter is such an effective media presence. He uses what’s at his disposal besides ice time. He’s gonna have these media types serving as fuel for our teams reflective captivation. These guys read the clippings and hear their names in interviews. He’s putting his psychological chops on display. Lindy will blossom with this style of leadership. Sutter even called him a quiet leader.
“4th” line was good again they were close a couple times. I like their straight line play he’s together by doc. Benny and leivo lol inspired and focused. They have a good balance for that line. Our depth should be better than most depth around the league. We are a cap team with no upper tier contracts rather numerous value contracts. This teams depth should be a problem for other clubs. Sutter knew before taking the job. Soldier and solider up!
Hanifin. Wow this good is really appreciating the coaching change. It looks good on him. I was a huge fan of the Dougie trade but know we are starting to see why. These two for Doug? Come on easy all day especially with Dougie wanting pietrangelo money.
I hope Noah blossoms more on the pp now. When we acquired him I saw a stat coming from Carolina saying hanifin was elite at gaining the zone. So Jonny and Noah with lindy as puck carries on pp1 seems like it could really work. Hopefully Noah works on his shot to become more of a threat to shoot on pp1. But him and Tanev were a revelation as a duo.
Tanev was such a good signing and I knew immediately. I have watched him bail out Vancouver for years. They miss him. But man I never knew he was this fast. He can really skate. He’s like a young Rhett warrener with his shot blocking.
OK is ok. Phew. That looked ugly but his speed is more welcome than nesterov. The shine has worn off from nesterov. Too indecisive to play up tempo hockey. Valimaki is setting into 11 minutes territory. That’s perfect for him. Play hanifin and Tanev moar.
Gio and Rasmus getting more comfortable playing faster and more physical below the Gil line. Less bad pinches from ras will stabilize his play.
Marky was strong when we needed him. Clutch save prevented a three point outcome.
BT has saved this season and this core while guaranteeing his own replacement. Worth it. This group is who we thought they were. Keep that brass bonanza playing.

That wasn't the actual penalty, SNET just showed the wrong play.
I posted screengrabs of Backlund interfering with Russell above. It was the right call.
