The high hit is against the rules and cheap. The fight is totally within the rules with two willing players. Bad outcome for Khaira but the fight itself wasn't wrong or unnecessary, especially since the refs didn't do their job which could have stopped the fight in the first place.

This is what I don't understand about fighting.
The purpose is to hit the other guy in the head. That's what they are trying to do.
Then when someone suffers a head injury it's treated as a shocking and unacceptable outcome of that. Even though that's the specific activity that was being engaged in.
I don't get it. Just get rid of it already.

Well, he got knocked out like a boxer would. Or a ufc guy. Or a street fighter. Or any of the hockey players in the past.
Fighting is a part of this sport and sometimes guys get knocked out.
We don't have to apologize for that. Guy messed up and paid a price for it.

Who was celebrating that?
I saw posts about hoping that Khaira was okay getting thanks.
And I didn't realize you had the diagnosis on him already?
Feel free to take off.

Agreed. If the league did a better job of policing that stuff fights wouldn’t be necessary.
I’d actually be ok if they got rid of fighting - but only if they do a far better job at policing crap hits like the one khaira threw.

Agreed. I’d say 9/10 posts ended with ‘hope he’s ok’.

I think Khairas a stand up player usually, the dirty play was out of character and take no pleasure in seeing him injured. Nurse is a guy I find that tries to fight small guys and euros all the time and kassian is... kassian but khaira's an honest player.
But fantastic seeing the flames stick up for each other. And i think that everybody in the division will see that knockout on slow mo tonight and think twice before running around against the flames and targeting their smaller players with cheapshots. Ritchie has really been a great add for the flames.

To get rid of it, the refs need to be held to a higher standard. They need to call the actual rule book, and players need to learn to play within it. It’ll make for a faster breed of hockey in the end as well.
This stupid place that we’re at where refs “manage” games rather than call the rule book keeps the conversation of fighting being “needed” because otherwise you get hits like that Khaira hit that go uncalled, and the counter point would be that they’d happen more often. Khaira ultimately took the damage he had previously dealt by playing recklessly, but that’s not justice in the law of the league - the law of the league states 5 minute major and a game misconduct, which would have prevented the second injury.
Just call the damn rule book, and make fighting an instant five game suspension.

Except you don't NEED to fight to win a hockey game.
It's an antiquated aspect of the game I wouldn't miss in the slightest.

Good on Khaira for answering the bell after his ugly hit.
Quite similar to when he challenged and fought Bennett after Benny injured Koekkoek with the interference hit.

I agree with what you said, but here is a tip, put the guy on ignore and quit answering him. Then the GT gets so much better when asses don't get the attention they are seeking.

Where is the line?
Phrases like Russian Rocket or Finnish Flash acceptable on a hockey forum?
