The media buzz about the young superstars these days, but these two guys continue to do what they’ve done for a decade and a half. What a treat it has been to watch them.
I’m not sure we see players like this for another generation.
|
And most impressively, they've won.
The young stars they constantly gawk over now haven't proven anything when it matters. They used to put an asterisk next to the top talents that couldn't win, because it mattered as much as scoring races.

How good is Taylor Hall at getting his team the first overall pick though?

The Hurricanes have won 8 in a row.
NYI have 9 wins in a row.
Wouldn’t life be sweet if Calgary could go on a WIN streak like that?

I hate to pump the Jets tires but was surprised to see Neal Pionk top ten in D scoring. Only makes $3M a year too.
Jacob Trouba on the other hand has 5 points making $8M. What a disaster trade for the Rangers. Gave up a 1st rounder too.

Its kinda funny seeing all the praise for guys around the league with 20+ points
M. Tkachuk with 22 points and playing like a bum according to 75% of CP
grass is always greener I guess

... which was really stupid, because it's a team sport.

Just noticed Fox is playing over 24 minutes a night for the Rangers. He’s on quite the trajectory.

Honestly, this is starting to be something pretty incredible. Everywhere he goes it seems the team gets worse, even when he won Hart with the Devils they barely limped into the playoffs and got knocked out in the first round. His impact on team success is terrible.

TBF he has always gone to teams that are trainwrecks. I think he'd look good on a contender.

In all fairness to Hall, he was dealt to Arizona last year — probably the best team, top to bottom, he's even been on — and he helped them win the qualifying round over Nashville. Scored six points in nine playoff games. He didn't tank them.
I think VilleN is right — Hall's struggles have been more a product of the poor construction of the rosters around him.

I just don't understand why Buffalo is so bad, though. You'd think with what they have - an elite #1C, an elite or at least very high end #1 winger, a solid #1 defenseman, and some reasonably talented depth that's a mix of veterans who aren't over the hill (Staal, Skinner, Eakin, Sheahan) and young skilled forwards (Cozens, Middlestadt, Olofsson, Reinhart) that they should at least be a middle of the road team. Yeah, they're mediocre goaltending-wise, so they can't be good... but they're also bad at everything else. With the players they have, it just feels like they should be competitive.

It sounds like Eichel's been hurt pretty much all year so there's that.

The coaching hires haven't worked out as players hated Blysma, Housley wasn't ready to be an NHL head coach, and I don't think Krueger is NHL head coach material. Obviously it's not all on the coaches but coaching matters a lot especially with younger rosters that lack leadership in the locker room.

I guess. He had 18 points in 21 games though, so he's played most of their schedule and hasn't been terrible, just goals haven't been going in.

He's good enough where he can pick up assists while hurt, but the low goals, and the notion that it's some sort of rib injury from pre-season kind of add up. Pretty hard to shoot hard with a broken rib. It would also keep him from driving to the net.

Is there any site that shows each players W-L record for their career?
Was trying to think who else might be near the bottom...Shane Doan came to mind, but surprising stat of the day: the Coyotes made the playoffs 10/22 years he was there (incl. 1 as WIN). Only out of the 1st round once though.
Yashin? Turns out he made playoffs 8/12 years.
Daigle only made the playoffs twice in 12 seasons...TIL he was still playing for the Wild in '05-06
Geoff Sanderson: 5PO's in 16 seasons

Don't forget poor Olli Jokinen, who only played 6 playoff games in his 17 year career.

Poor old Marcel Dionne played like 19 years and was PPG in 17 of them, often well over 100 pts. And he made it to the second round a mere 3 times. Never past that. Missed the POs entirely 10/19 years, exited round one 6 times, and in the second round 3 times. Because he played for sad sack teams his whole career.
