Default List of Flames Draft Picks with 200 goals

Congratulations to Sean Monahan on his 200th career goal for the Calgary Flames. It's been a very long time since a Flames draft pick scored 200 goals with the organization. Since the team moves to Calgary here is a list of all draft picks to have accomplished it:

Sean Monahan - 2013
Theo Fleury - 1987
Joe Nieuwendyk - 1985
Gary Roberts - 1984
Al MacInnis - 1981

Seriously though, this team without Monahan....I can't imagine it. Dude bleeds Flames and Calgary. And all he gets is all sorts 9f heat from fans.

I'm glad he's a flame and hope he stays one for a very long time.

the last Flames draft pick to score 200 anywhere was Cory Stillman (1992)

Backlund scored his 150th today too as it turns out

It's crazy to think that Monahan has more goals than MacKinnon. Don't know how long that will last but I'll take it for now!

Amazing to think he had 199 goals in the NHL before he even had an NHL coach.

First player from the 2013 draft to score 200 goals.

Great to see that he’s looking like a power centerman than just a dainty center before Sutter showed up.

Sportsnet: McDavid scored 200 goals before being drafted, so there!

Great to see. He's looked great under sutter so far.

He's a really nice kid, from a tremendous, humble family. Happy to see him succeed!

I figured Monahan would be fine under Sutter. I respected how he was trying to be more physical and responsible even under Ward this year, even while he was struggling offensively. He seems coachable to me.

He’s never going to be a true power forward but I think his effort is always there, even though he’s pretty stoic. And I don’t know many Flames who’ve endured as much punishment and played through as many injuries as him.

Default List of Flames Draft Picks with 200 goals

Interesting tidbit from Darren Haynes in Monahan

@DarrenWHaynes: Sean Monahan’s 201 goals leads the 2013 draft class (MacKinnon 196, Barkov 166). But what’s more impressive, that total would also rank him top-5 in each of the previous five draft classes, despite playing fewer seasons:
- 2012, 1st
- 2011, 3rd
- 2010, 5th
- 2009, 5th
- 2008, 4th

https://twitter.com/DarrenWHaynes/st...96884265857025

I know the 2012 draft class was poor, but that is quite impressive

To be fair, he will be top 10 compared to many drafts even before that. A quick check back to 1999 would put him top 10 in all of the drafts (except the crazy 2003 draft) with his 201 goals.

He can score and has had a tremendous career thus far.

The Flames put together a video of goals 1-100 after he hit that milestone. I hope they do a part 2.

I mean, he obviously doesn’t suck, and the only way we should ever trade him is to get a better version of him. Still, I don’t think it’s unfair to say that he’s a guy who has good chemistry with Johnny, but is overall better suited to being a second line C. I would say the same about Craig Conroy/Iggy, and Daymond Langkow in general. Anyone saying any of those guys suck, or even aren’t valuable to the team, are either stupid or dishonest, but I don’t think it’s unfair to say that all three of those guys played that role out of necessity, and not because it was the best fit for them. I like Monahan, think he’s a good hockey player that I’m happy to have on my team, and that he matches up poorly head-to-head with most #1 centers.

This post would have been great without the first 2 sentences.

He needs to start going back to the middle of the slots, most of his goals were from there.
