I definitely said there was zero chance the Flames would fire Ward mid-season, but I did not "openly mock those who wanted a coaching change." I WANTED A COACHING CHANGE, and was pleasant surprised when it happened. I don't think I am alone I that.
And let's be clear, here: my responses have been directed specifically to those who appear to believe that Sutter solves all of the teams problems. I am ecstatic with the hire, and happy with the win, but will continue to regard these juniour-high-level "told you so" retorts as exceptionally premature.
So, you can spare me your sanctimonious "think before you predict" advice.

I mean, it would be kind of be your style to ridicule those who were pining for something you had deemed an impossibility.
IMO it's too early for I told you so, but it's also the wrong time to bring up skepticism over the core and their mental toughness, ability to win when it counts, etc. These are the exact things Sutter was brought in to improve.
Let's see if he can get it done. I'll say it again, there is absolutely nothing to be afraid of in this division. Other than the current standings unfortunately, but seems there's enough time to deal with that.

Flames just dominated the first, and didn’t let them push back in the second. Missed the third but if the shots were any indication (9-8 Montreal), we did a reasonable job of locking it down. Watching the highlights Markstrom had a huge save there to keep it 3-1.

I don't mean to. And I am completely convinced that if there is only one coach can get this group over that hump, it is Sutter.
And yeah, with how they played the last two games this team should be scaring the hell out of every one else in Canada.

Some of those among us are seemingly anhedonic #######s. Enjoy the change and get swept up in the Sutter mania. Shared delusion helps everyone believe, and we actually need this team to believe in itself more than ever.

Why are kicked in goals not allowed in the first place? I get its originally most likely for safety reasons; you don't want skate blades flailing all over the place. But if they blade stays on the ice, and it's a sideways motion, I think they should count those goals.
It's a great play anywhere else on the ice when the players are athletic enough to control the puck with skates, so why not allow it when it results in a goal?
That was a fun game to watch. It's enjoyable to be on the other side of a game where it seems like a big accomplishment for one team to just break the puck over their own blue line and dump the puck in for a change. How many times did we see the Habs do that tonight?
Then, even when they picked up their game, the Flames were backchecking so hard and making Markstrom's life pretty easy.
I remain very excited about the rest of this season. Montreal and Edmonton are the targets for sure to get in the playoffs, so the next 2 games are almost as important as these ones (these 2 regulation wins were just huge... 2 points back vs 10 is a world of difference).
-Kylington played well and I think he'll stick this time.
-Mangiapane is so good. That assist was a great effort and it was good for my personal stress level to have a 2 goal lead through the 3rd
-congrats to Monahan on 200 and 201. Both hard working goals and a lot of good work elsewhere on the ice too
-great save by Markstrom and good play by Tanev to disrupt Tatar

Puck frigin pressure! How refreshing is to see a forecheck creating pressure and mistakes!
Flames looked better tonight vs the fresh habs compared to the last last game.
So exciting to see. This team might not have the star power as others in the division but they have a deeper level of skill at all positions. Nice to see what a nhl calibre head coach can accomplish.
Also, I thought kylington looked solid in the early part of the game.

Well this is about as much of a must win game as we’ve had so far. No excuses, get it done boys
Quote:
I really don't like playing cgy. We gotta win this one
Quote:
The flames are f***ing ####. Inexcusable to be losing to This team. Imagine we’re out of a PO spot by next Saturday
Quote:
This is literally the only team that could force us out of the playoffs and we're crapping the bed for the fourth time.
Quote:
Calgary looks like they got rid of the rust and we’re still looking sluggish and tired.
Quote:
Unforgivable against your only direct competitor. This is embarassing. 3-3-3 after a coaching change is not a good look.
What Year is It?

I cant take paul byron anymore, I just f***ing cant, god

Cassie just said Byron will be better on the draw than Evans? Lol.
Quote:
Damn, Byron was sneaky there.
Like a ninja.

If Byron could finish he’d be a legit NHL player.

Byron- all wheels, no hands.

Can Byron's nickname be Blue Balls?

Ugh...clear cut breakaway and they manage to screw it up.

Gotta love the circle jerk of Sutter.

Quote:
This team just doesn't look like they are ready to play tonight. Looks like Calgary is answering the bell for Sutter…
Quote:
Habs with 2 shots on goal so far and both were easy shots from the parking lot.
Quote:
We don't have a breakout at all.
Quote:
But guys... DARRYL SUTTER!!!
Quote:
Hopefully not another night of Darryl Sutter saving society stories...
Quote:
The flames just want it more. Too bad Sutter didn't speak French.
Quote:
I find Calgary like watching the habs play Columbus. Slow and hard to get possession and really hard to get high danger chances.
Quote:
Hey guys did you know Darryl Sutter is the Flames Coach???
Quote:
Whatttttttt?!?!?!?
Quote:
I really hope Button isn’t on tonight - the Sutter circlejerk last game was unbearable

Sutter putting Gaudreau out against the Byron line, according to Julien that’s not allowed, has to be 4th on 4th

what the f*** Armia. f***

Monahan beats 6 Habs in a blink of an eye.

Armia get the f*** off the ice and never take another shift
Quote:
I don't know what Armia was thinking there when he had options to get the puck to a teammate.
Quote:
What the f*** are doing Armia??
So unnecessary
Quote:
LOL-el Armia dumb as bricks....
Quote:
LOL Armia goes from Gretzky to shmuck...
Quote:
My, my. Another brutal turnover. Shocker.
Quote:
Ritchie manhandled Armia, that caused the goal. Joel is too big to give it up like that!
Quote:
Armia it’s not against the rules for you to pass the puck
Quote:
That was all on Armia tbh. He took his time didnt pass and then super lazy deke lose puck. Bench him. Pass him a message. I like Armia but those plays are a no no. Its not a 5-0 game.
Quote:
I don't know how to feel anymore about this version of the team. It's only 1 goal and it's 50+ mins left. I just want MB fired already...
Quote:
Did we play last night and i missed it jesus we look slow af
Quote:
Armia had 5 f***ing minutes to do something. Thats the worst play of the year....
Mony’s 201st off a bounce

Ottawa and flames supposed to be bad teams of the division yet we make them look like all stars.. maybe were a bad team too..?

Man, they are dominated in every f***ing ways

That was the worst period of hockey I’ve seen from this team this year and that’s saying something.
Darryl Hockey
Quote:
maybe the worst period of the season. dog#### effort and horrible refs as usual are a great combination
Quote:
I love how the Flames can have possession of the puck right in front of our net & have all the time in the world to make a pass or shoot or whatever they want to do with no resistance.
Quote:
Getting owned on the transition.
Quote:
If Calgary keeps playing Sutter’s style, they’ll be Top 3. Toronto will be there. Last 2 spots will be between Montreal/Edmonton/Winnipeg.
Quote:
WTF I’m i watching ?
Is it a 20 minutes pk simulation ?
Quote:
Petry gets outmuscled by a 5’3” guy... yup that kind of night
Quote:
Rarely do you see a team out skate and out work the Habs. That period was a rare example.
Quote:
15 shots to 3.
Pathetic.
Quote:
Shots are 11-2, all Flames booo
Quote:
Let's go with the good news, the zamboni drivers only need to pass on half of the ice. The other half hasn't been used.
Quote:
Did they really just wake up with 1 minute left? Nah it was probably Calgary getting tired of dominating the whole period!
Quote:
What's the possession 90-10 for Calgary?
Angry Birds
Quote:
Bennet just targeted Perry's head.
Quote:
Armia is getting absolutely destroyed by Lucic LOL.
Quote:
Mete getting outskate by Lucic or is he being a chicken #### afraid of Lucic... I wonder…

Mete going into the corner with Lucic for the 43rd time already. Losing that battle every time. Lol

Game over already. Just needed one win against this team to keep distance or both to bury them and instead we give them both. Won’t even make playoffs playing like this, especially if Bergy just sits on his ass and doesn’t improve this D
Quote:
The turnovers we make makes me question the IQ of most of the players on this team.

Just awful...............

This team even if it is lucky enough to claw its way to the playoffs is not good enough to win anything, 9 years of nothing.

Lol and they STILL score lol god, can anyone play some f***ing defense

Game Over... Petry looked like a rookie on that one, played it well at fisrt...

Are we literally trying to throw this?

Flames just taking target practice on Price... wow.

I cant even believe I thought we played worse LAST game lol holy ####

Wow. 3-0. Could be 4-0. Geezus, no backchecking at all.

I don’t really understand what to expect from Montreal. I get that some games they work really hard and make things happen but what are they?
Quote:
They basically have a lot of good 2nd line players. Besides these CGy games, they are usually the best "Corsi" team. Good possession team. Guys all strong. No game breaking talent.

It's only been two games and both against a struggling Montreal team but we look more confident breaking out of our zone which I hope continues.
Mangiapane is such a good player, one of my fav picks in recent years! Can move, has hands and some pretty great swagger for such a small guy that's pretty new to the league. Likely my next jersey purchase haha
