I laughed at this one.
I thought our top guys didn’t look very good offensively in this game - Tkachuk in particular. At least everyone looked engaged, so hopefully they can show improvement as we go on here. I enjoy wins no matter who scores, but if our top guys can’t get going it’s awfully tough to be successful. With Sutter at the helm I feel they all can be far better than they have shown, and if they don’t I’m happy to move them out for different assets this summer.
Ryan was great along with that whole line really, Hanifin was awesome (and has been for a bit now), Lucic was fantastic - I’m amazed people are actually fighting him these days as he is a monster, and Mangiapane was very effective as well.
Do it again on Saturday.

Probably easier for the bottom six players to adjust to Sutter's style of play than the top 6 which is what we saw last night. I expect in time this will come around. Tkachuk looked pretty bad but at least he wasn't making between the legs moves. I wonder if Darryl talked to him about that.

Nope. Sutters are 2934, Gretzkys are 2861, by my math.

Tkachuk was the worst player on the ice by a good margin. Did nothing out there and didn't look like his GAF meter was very high. This may not be the coach or team for him. Sutter plays an up tempo pressure game all the time, and Tkachuk has been a guy to disappear under pressure. He's been all talk, so its time for him to back up his yappin' with some top end play where the team needs it. Last night was not a good start and I believe Sutter's reference to the line he couldn't put out there was Tkachuk's.
Gaudreau made a few nice plays but was MIA for most of the night. Monahan and Ritchie bought into the north south game and were engaging in contact, but Gaudreau was still blowing snow at every opportunity and peeling away from getting engaged. He doesn't look comfortable out there and hasn't for quite some time. No where near as bad as Tkachuk, but not a great start for Johnny Hockey.
Nesterov was the weak link on the blueline. The problem with his game is he just holds the puck waaaaay too long. He's gotta move the puck quicker. The only times the Habs got sustained pressure, and their goal, was then Nesterov was out there. He just doesn't react quickly once he gets the puck and he makes weak plays with the puck.
For a Flames team that has been dog #### most of the season, and it was difficult to single out three guys for quality play, the fact there were only three guys that stood out for mediocre to poor play is a fantastic change. Take this one and build on it Saturday night. Two wins in a row would be the beginning of a streak they badly need.

Agree completely.
I would like to see kylington get an extended look in place of Nesterov. I don’t think he is unplayable or anything, but I like the dimension that kylington can add with the speed he has. Sutter can likely coach up the defensive side of his game and we can see what he have there.

In liker New Era's take on the game. There are a few players who may not be flames in the near future.
I really noticed Monahan engaging in the physical play, finally.
IMO, Johnny is a liability in 5 on 5 play.
Tkachk's poor skating is going to be brutally exposed with the change in tempo during the games.
And yes, I am not a fan of both players.

Look at Backs clearing his guy out of there.
Great game for a team without a top line. Pressure all over, gave Montreal nothing.
The top line had a great chance early and then nothing. Ritchie looked decent there with them, but somehow it seemed like he had the puck more than the other two. Strange and probably not what they want.
Gio looked poised and Hanifin had some nice pinches. That's a good sign. Maybe they can get some confidence and start helping the forwards.

Monahan’s been more physical all year - lots of people have noticed. He’s had a brutal year scoring.

I disagree with most of this. drawing way too many conclusions from a single game.

Thank God Darryl called them out after the game glad they won but facing a tired Montreal team Calgary still didn't look very good except for the 3rd and 4th lines the top 2 lines need to get their crap together

Together, Wayne and Brent hold the NHL record for most combined points by two brothers - 2,857 for Wayne and 4 for Brent, and are second overall in points scored by any number of brothers (behind the six brothers of the Sutter family who combined for 2,934 NHL points - 73 more than Wayne and Brent),
