Dunno, but I have a gut feeling the Monahan and Gaudreau pair are going to go through some pains here in the next few games.
And I'm going to say this now, Gaudreau aside from a couple of.minutes tonight looked pretty lost. I want to say it's due to the team not being where he is used to them being positionally.
That and he needs to find his fourth and fifth gears PDQ. Johnny can thrive in a Sutter system, I've seen it in college. He needs to get back to his college hockey style. Dogged fleetfooted fox.

Pretty obvious to me, Gaudreau line.

Will be interested to see who takes off and who struggles under Sutter. The stugglers won’t be coddled they’ll be traded. The inmates are no longer in charge and its for the best for the organization.

It's impossible to love Sutter any more than I do.
He is 10000% referring to Gaudreau-Monahan-Ritchie, who were by far the worst line tonight.
Sutter doesn't care who you are. You play the right way or you don't play at all.
Johnny and Mony are going to improve so much under Sutter. That, or they're going to be saying their goodbyes this summer.

Yeah, that was definitely the Monny line he was hinting at.

Eric loves to talk about Sutters mom and it’s kind of weird now. He may wanna lay low on that going forward because he’s flirting with creepy.

Interestingly, didn't look like any lines were missing shifts outside of some reconfiguring while Lucic was in the box: http://shiftchart.com/game/2021-03-11-canadiens-flames
The other 3 lines each got a shift after the goal against, then we took a penalty, killed it off, and Mangiapane-Backlund-Lucic got the first post-penalty shift followed by Gaudreau-Monahan-Ritchie.

Perry is such a dirtbag that I think he went down super easy and even kicked up his leg trying to hit Bennett. Look where his skate went as he went down. He is that shifty. Nothing you could ever prove, but hard to ignore when you see his body of work.

For the most part Monahan was okay. Not great but okay, him and Ritchie dug down low a fair bit tonight. Monnys problem was he couldn't catch pretty much any pass lobbed at him. He had like 3 or 4 in the final two periods that could have set up some good O zone time and scoring chance but they got away from him.
But he was in the right places, got a few decent chances and tied his career high total of 4 hits I one game. Monahan will be fine.
I posted earlier, I'm more concerned with Gaudreau.

This exceeded my expectations.
I was betting that Calgary would win. I just didn't think they would look this dominant in doing so.
The offence isn't quite clicking - 4th line aside, but it will get there. Flames managed the puck so much better. I mean, how refreshing is it not to see a clear-cut breakaway against? Seems to happen every game. One almost happened with a bobbled puck, but even then the Flames managed to stifle it.
I didn't think the Flames would come out this strong defensively. I really thought it would take 5 or 6 games at least to get to this level. Very few turnovers tonight. Montreal had to fight for every inch of ice out there, and the Flames seemed to play in Montreal's zone for most of the game.
Team looked fast - who said they are a slow team again? This team was moving the puck quickly and skating into the open areas anticipating way better. That's how you play fast. That's what a fast team is.
I thought the Flames were a bit scrambly at times, and there were moments when the poor tendencies started creeping up again when they were under a bit of pressure, but Markstrom was there to bail them out. Even then, I felt that Markstrom wasn't really tested tonight - that one goal against was a double deflection with no chance, but I don't think there was one legitimate scoring threat after that. I guess you can say that mad scramble in front of the net was - I won't argue that, but that's some pretty low event hockey against.
Loved the start of the game. You could just see the Flames not giving Montreal any options anywhere on the ice, and with their aggressive forecheck, didn't give them much time to make a decision on limited and poor options. How many flubbed passes tonight? Montreal looked like the Flames out there tonight.
I can't wait until more stuff is cleaned-up and addressed. This will be a process yet, but it is happening much faster than I thought it would. Flames are bound to lose a game eventually (hopefully not until next year though), so it will be interesting to see how they respond.
I really liked how they kept pressing and taking the puck into the offensive zone near the end of the game. Didn't sit back with chips down the ice and going for changes - just kept pouring on the pressure like they had all game.
Responsible pressure. That's what a Darryl Sutter team is all about. Make the other team uncomfortable. Outwork them. Keep taking the game to them instead of waiting for them to take it to you, but always be aware out there and not take short-cuts that could result in turnovers.
10 games in, this team is going to look like a well oiled machine. I thought every line except the 4th line lost some of the momentum at times, but they will get better. I don't think there are any players here that I can say probably won't fit in right now. Maybe some won't, but we will have to see.

The post-game comments are such a great example of how Sutter sets high standards. The GT was full of roses and platitudes of how this is a great game played by the Flames. Sutter starts by saying it was largely error free, other than 6-7 giveaways which he highlights they need to get rid of. Acknowledging the good, but pushing to be better. Then when talking about the lines out in the last minute, says they as a team need to get better at the checking required in the division without singling anyone out, but still pushing to get better. So without diminishing the win, or making a big statement about being unhappy, he's let it be known that the there is another level to push for and he's going to push for that. That's how you win championships.
