I'd say the Flames were pretty unfortunate not to score another goal or two...that Backlund one was ridiculous bad luck

The things that had to change more than anything else (and they are related):
1) moving the puck out of their own zone quicker
2) playing a faster game (which is mostly moving the puck forward)
They did both of those things really well.
Amazing how much progress they have made in 2 days. Gives me hope that they can solidify this and give themselves a real chance to make the playoffs.

That was a must win against a tired team. Mission accomplished, the good guys absolutely shut them down.
Now buckle up for Saturday. I actually believe the Habs are a pretty decent team and that will be a big test.

Have to say my favourite part of the night was seeing Sutter actually coaching between breaks in play.
Him getting fired up and coaching after the Habs scored their goal was the best.
A coach actually coaching during the game instead of looking at a tablet. Amazing.

If we make it, i am not scared of any of the other Canadian teams. Sutter will have a game plan and execute it properly.

Tonight they didn't dump the puck and five players go to the bench for a line change, giving away possession. Instead they dumped, but one man continued to forecheck allowing the rest to enter and gain possession. Much better than just giving the puck away.

First period was interesting. Noticed Hanifin jumping into the rush right away so I bet we see a lot more of that this year. Had good luck possession but didn’t end up with a lot of SOG (seemed like a lot of shot attempts though).
Second period was great — nice to see them get rewarded with a couple of goals as they were really starting to come at Montreal in waves. Starting to build that confidence.
Third period was more even — the missed high stick on Lindholm should have helped out the game on ice. Sort of a makeup call on the Dube slash — glad they didn’t call Perry’s dive when Mangiapane was in the box. I like Bennett getting some PK time as part of his new “role”.
Overall the puck pressure was noticeable at both ends of the ice, and the puck support was good as well. Big two points against a tired Habs team — now they have to do it again on Saturday night.

I thought Ritchie was solid — hard on pucks and playing the body — but that line didn’t generate too much other than that one shift. I’d give it a few more games though — the effort was there for the most part.
